FY51 - FuturEnergy

Por ese There is no doubt that climate action is requiring us to make efforts to combat that change. AEGE, with its 26 associates from industrial sectors such as steel, metallurgy, chemicals, industrial gases and others, employing 186,000 people with over 60% of their production dedicated to export, has already been taking steps to improve its energy efficiency to which a high proportion of its annual investments are allocated. Basic industry, committed to decarbonisation Electro-intensive industry is seriously committed to decarbonising the economy and to guaranteeing the power supply. These are not just words, it is a fact: its consumption pattern is vital to smooth the electricity demand curve and reduce the consumption peak. This makes industry the ally of renewable energy, because its role favours the integration of these generation sources into the electrical system, thus helping comply with Spain’s objectives under the international agreements to combat climate change. We wish to continue working and maintaining our position in the domestic economy as basic industries, as the driver for development and social well-being. The energy transition that we are currently experiencing has to be an opportunity for the electro-intensive industry given its tractor effect on the economy. For every euro invested in this industry, a multiplying effect of between 2.2 and 2.5 Euros in wealth creation is produced. Our industries are extremely price-sensitive: the electricity bill of electro-intensive entities accounts for between 10 and 50% of their total production costs. So in order to reduce the costs of electricity, we have developed improvements to processes and implemented energy efficiency projects that aim to optimise the ratio of electricity consumption per tonne of product manufactured. Some of Spain’s factories are world leaders in their sector as regards innovation and energy efficiency. We have made virtue out of necessity in our installations to become a reference for our improvements in energy efficiency. For the same demand AEGE partners pay €450m more than their German competitors However, these improvements in energy efficiency have been diluted with the THE ENERGY TRANSITION, AN OPPORTUNITY FOR INDUSTRY The regulatory development to facilitate the energy transition which is currently taking place must enable the challenges we are facing to be addressed in a successful and planned way.We can turn the decarbonisation of our economy into an opportunity to strengthen our industry. This is why we need a Law on Climate Change and Energy Transition that helps us preserve the environment, improve the competitiveness of our industry and hence that of our economy.
