Todas las zonas utilizables del edificio se han dotado de iluminación 100% LED. Asimismo, en el edificio se incorporará un sistema de gestión de residuos, una instalación de compostaje que mejorará las características del suelo, el crecimiento de las plantas y la biodiversidad. Equipo global La naturaleza diversa del equipo del proyecto agregó ingredientes y energías variadas al proceso. Con el cliente y los contratistas in situ en Ruanda, arquitectos e ingenieros en España (Madrid y Gerona), los consultores Green Star en Sudáfrica y los Project Managers en Rumania, el equipo tuvo que ingeniárselas para asegurar una comunicación fluida. “Con proyectos que pretendan cambiar las reglas, es necesario que todos entiendan los objetivos. Hay cientos de personas trabajando en cualquier proyecto, lo cual significa muchas presentaciones y reuniones y aclaraciones e interacciones todo el tiempo. A veces encontramos personas bien intencionadas que intentanmejorar un proyecto por su cuenta, pero con criterios desfasados, o piensan que lo que se les ha pedido no puede estar bien por ser diferente de lo que venían haciendo hasta la fecha, y cometen errores. La intención final del proyecto debe ser claramente comunicada una y otra vez.”, añade Arroyo. El punto culminante fue sin duda el anuncio de la certificación. No sólo es la primera clasificación de Green Star SA en Ruanda, es la primera clasificación de 6 estrellas fuera de Sudáfrica. “La cantidad de trabajo fue significativa y hubo muchos desafíos por lo que fue un alivio cuando recibimos la noticia”, añade Naicker. “En veinte años espero ver el edificio bien madurado como un hermoso jardín. Si queremos lograr una cultura sostenible, necesitamos hacerla sentir como un paraíso. A veces la sostenibilidad suena a discurso moral y un poco gris, como si no nos dieran muchas opciones – nosotros tratamos de hacerlo mejor. Queremos que sea espléndido y deseable. Es necesario hacer edificios sostenibles que la gente pueda amar”, concluye Arroyo. treatment system reduces the discharge of water by 90%. There are hundreds of people working on any project, meaning many presentations and meetings and clarifications and interactions all the time. Sometimes we come across well-intentioned people who try to improve a project on their own account, but with out-of-sync phases, or who think that what they have been asked to do cannot be correct because it is different to what they have been doing to date, so they make mistakes. The final aim of the project has to be clearly communicated over and over”, adds Arroyo. The culminating point was undoubtedly the announcement of the certification. It is not only the first Green Star SA rating in Ruanda but is the first 6-star rating outside South Africa. “The amount of work involved was considerable and there were many challenges, so it was a relief when we received the news”, adds Naicker. “In twenty years’ time, I hope to see the well-matured building looking like a beautiful garden. If we want to achieve a sustainable culture, we need to make it feel like a paradise. At times, sustainability sounds like a moral discourse and is rather nebulous, as though it doesn’t offer many options – we try to do it better. We would like it to be splendid and desirable. We have to build sustainable buildings that people can love”, concludes Arroyo.
