Latinoamérica es una de las regiones por la que Vestas está apostando más fuerte. Tras consolidar su liderazgo en mercados eólicos europeos más maduros como el italiano o el francés y conseguir situarse como el primer fabricante en capacidad instalada y número de nuevos pedidos en EE.UU. el año pasado, Vestas no da tregua y continúa liderando a nivel global una industria que, como afirma su Presidente Bert Nordberg en el informe anual de la compañía, liderará, “junto a otras fuentes de generación limpia, el futuro de la industria energética”. En este contexto de crecimiento, Latinoamérica se ha convertido en una región clave. Durante los últimos años, muchos países del continente americano se han subido al tren de las renovables, promoviendo políticas verdes y apostando por mecanismos más eficientes, para asignar capacidad de suministro como son las subastas de electricidad. Este fenómeno ha propiciado que la mayor parte de los pedidos que se realizaron en 2016 se concentraran en el segundo semestre del año. Países como Chile, México, Brasil o Argentina, celebraron subastas de energías renovables el año pasado y algunos de los proyectos ya otorgados aún tienen que materializarse. 2016ha supuestounañode inflexiónparaVestas en cuanto a suapuesta por Latinoamérica. Hace poco más de un año abrió una fábrica en Ceará al norte de Brasil, tras obtener la certificación del BNDES y firmó más de 370 MW en 2016. Actualmente estudia posibilidades para extender aúnmás su capacidad de fabricación en la región, amedida que aumenten las necesidades y demandas de estos mercados. Además, Vestas también contribuye a generar nuevos puestos de trabajo y al desarrollo local, cerrando acuerdos con proveedores locales para la fabricación de componentes sus aerogeneradores. Por ejemplo, en Brasil, ha impulsado la construcción de una fábrica de palas junto a Aeris. Su actividad en Argentina también ha recibido un impulso importante, dada la revitalización del sector gracias a la nueva ley de renovables impulsada por el gobierno. La introducción de las subastas está contribuyendo a abaratar el coste de la energía, por otro lado, las condiciones de financiación han mejorado mucho: se ha logrado diseñar un doble mecanismo de protección al inversor, que potencia la entrada de nuevos flujos de capital hacia nuevos proyectos eólicos. Within this context of growth, Latin America has become a key region. During recent years, many countries on the American continent have jumped on the renewables band waggon, promoting green policies and supporting more efficient mechanisms to allocate electricity capacity, such as power auctions. This phenomenon has resulted in the majority of the orders secured in 2016 being concentrated in the second half of the year. Countries such as Chile, Mexico, Brazil and Argentina all held renewable energy auctions last year and some of the projects already awarded still have to materialise. 2016 was a turning point for Vestas as regards its commitment to Latin America. Having obtained BNDES certification, just over a year ago it opened an office in Ceará in northern Brazil, signing over 370 MW in 2016. It is currently exploring options to extend its manufacturing footprint in the region even further, to respond to the increasing demands of these countries. Vestas has helped create new jobs and has contributed to local development, finalising agreements with local suppliers to manufacture the components for its wind turbines. For example, in Brazil, it has driven the construction of a blades factory in partnership with Aeris. Its activity in Argentina has also received an important stimulus, given the revitalisation of the sector thanks to the new renewable energy law promoted by the Government. The introduction of auctions is helping bring down the cost of energy, while financing conditions have greatly improved. A dual mechanismhas been designed to protect the investor that is fostering the entry of new flows of capital into newwind projects. This new scenario, combined with a stable regulatory framework, is having a very positive effect on the growth of the sector. In fact, since last December,Vestas has signed 225 MWof new orders in Argentina, as well as having reinforced its presence in the country by opening a new office. Likewise, the company has maintained its leadership of the Uruguayan market, with over 30% of the market share. It has also signed two contracts for its first wind farms in Honduras.
