El diseño y fabricación de este tipo de equipos viene definido tanto en el RITE como en la norma UNE 60601:2013, siendo una solución llave en mano totalmente probada y certificada por el fabricante, que sustituye a la sala de calderas convencional y permite ahorrar de esta manera el proyecto necesario para su diseño y legalización. Su utilización repercute también en una mayor seguridad en caso de posible fuga de gas y fallo del sistema de detección, ya que su instalación exterior impide la formación de bolsas de gas. Los equipos autónomos para exteriores contienen todos los elementos necesarios para la producción de calor, incluyendo los generadores de condensación, sistemas de bombeo, instalación de gas, eléctrica e hidráulica, líneas auxiliares como llenado y vaciado, los sistemas de seguridad necesarios e indicados en la normativa vigente, así como el cerramiento aislado y adecuado para su instalación en exterior. El edificio donde se ubica el hotel (construido entre 1916 y 1919), es singular por su emplazamiento y fachada de gran valor artístico, hecho que condicionó su diseño y distribución interior, así como la ubicación de las instalaciones mecánicas necesarias para dar servicio de climatización y agua caliente a los clientes. En el proyecto se consideró una reforma integral y recuperación del edificio histórico, y dada la dificultad para ubicar una sala de calderas convencional, se planteó el uso de un equipo autónomo para exterior para la producción de agua caliente sanitaria como apoyo al sistema principal mediante bomba de calor.
