La recarga se realiza mediante inducción magnética, sin la necesidad de utilizar catenarias, cables o enchufes. Los trenes equipados con la solución tecnológica PRIMOVE, proporcionarán una alternativa ecológica a los trenes diésel que operan en las líneas no electrificadas, haciendo posible reducir significativamente la contaminación acústica y las emisiones. Los operadores y los pasajeros también se beneficiarán de un sistema de batería que elimina la necesidad de cambiar de tren cuando se enlazan tramos de vía sin electrificar. Alexander Dobrindt, el ministro de Transporte alemán, manifestó que su inversión contribuirá al desarrollo de un transporte eléctrico con cero emisiones, lo que supondrá una alternativa energéticamente eficiente y rentable a los trenes diésel. En su opinión, la implementación de la pila de combustible y la tecnología de baterías para el transporte ferroviario marcará el comienzo de una nueva era para las rutas no electrificadas.
