Antecedentes La sociedad actual se enfrenta a importantes y graves problemas originados por un uso indiscriminado de los recursos que ha llevado a un agotamiento de los mismos y a un crecimiento exponencial de los impactos sobre el medio ambiente. Ante esta situación, se plantea la transición hacia una economía más circular con el objetivo de reducir la contaminación. Es por ello que la Comisión Europea lleva a cabo, en su directiva de Energías renovables, el uso de gases renovables como una de las soluciones para apoyar la descarbonización del transporte para el año 2050, cumpliendo así con los objetivos climáticos del Acuerdo de París. Generando con ello propuestas más competitivas, sostenibles e innovadoras. El programa LIFE de la Unión Europea, es la herramienta mediante la cual la UE financia proyectos demostrativos en las áreas de medio ambiente y acción por el clima. El proyecto LIFE LANDFILL BIOFUEL, tiene como objetivo implementar un sistema rentable basado en nuevas técnicas para mejorar la producción y recuperación de gas de vertedero, junto con la aplicación de una innovadora tecnología de enriquecimiento para la producción de biometano con calidad para uso vehicular o inyección a red. Para ello la Comisión Europea ha aprobado su desarrollo con un presupuesto global de 4,67millones de euros, de los cuales financia 2,33 millones de euros, para así contribuir a alcanzar los objetivos que han sido planteados. El biometano, junto con otros gases y fuentes renovables, permitirán reorientar el sistema energético hacia uno mucho más renovable. The LIFE LANDFILL BIOFUEL project aims to implement a cost-effective systembased on new techniques to improve the production and recovery of landfill gas, along with the application of an innovative upgrading technology to produce biomethane that fulfill the quality standards for vehicle use and for grid injection. For this reason, the European Commission has ratified the project and is financing 2.33 million euros of the overall project budget of 4.67 million euros, thus contributing to achieving the objectives that have been set. Biomethane, together with other gases and other renewable sources, will enable a reorientation of the energy system in order to create a far more renewable system. The pilot plant for this European project is currently being developed at the Ecocentral Granada environmental compound in Alhendín. This facility belongs to the Granada Provincial Council and is managed by FCC Medio Ambiente, the project leader and coordinator. FCC Medio Ambiente has been a leading provider of environmental services for over 110 years, serving 66 million people in over 5,000 municipalities around the world and managing more than 24 million tonnes of waste annually through a network of more than 200 environmental recovery and recycling compounds. The LIFE LANDFILL BIOFUEL consortium comprises six companies from Spain and Portugal. FCC Medio Ambiente, CARTIF and SYSADVANCE are participating as technology and service providers. GASNAM and the University of Granada are participating as providers of market knowledge and project promotion services, while IVECO is participating as a vehicle manufacturer.
