Reutilización | Reuse www.futurenviro.es | Junio-Julio June-July 2021 77 En Cataluña se reutiliza más de un 6% de agua regenerada, lo que supone reutilizar cerca de 40 hm3 de agua al año mediante terciarios públicos, y se trabaja, a medio plazo, para triplicar este número. Se trata de una cifra en auge con iniciativas como el proyecto SUGGEREIX, liderado desde el centro tecnológico Eurecat. El agua regenerada es agua residual depurada que recibe un tratamiento adicional y que es adecuada para ser utilizada en ámbitos industriales, urbanos, agrícolas, recreativos y ambientales, como la recarga de acuíferos, entre otros usos. En la actualidad, la reutilización de agua afronta retos que abarcan desde un coste económico significativo, debido a la construcción de una infraestructura específica para su tratamiento y distribución; el impacto ambiental de la implantación de esquemas de regeneración y reutilización; la aceptación pública y el desconocimiento de los usuarios. El proyecto SUGGEREIX integrará la información relacionada con la gestión de la calidad del agua en procesos de regeneración y reutilización y generará nuevo conocimiento que permita facilitar la toma de decisiones a la hora de planificar, gestionar y supervisar estos procesos. SUGGEREIX es un proyecto ambicioso que pretende dar respuesta a muchos interrogantes que hoy en día aún existen en el ámbito de la reutilización de agua, como identificar los posibles riesgos para la salud humana y los ecosistemas y definir un seguimiento para el control de microcontaminantes y contaminantes microbiológicos mediante el desarrollo de nuevas herramientas para sistematizar la reutilización de este recurso. El proyecto se ejecuta conjuntamente por un consorcio de entidades liderado por el centro tecnológico Eurecat que incluye al Institut Català de Recerca de l’Aigua (ICRA), el Catalan Water Partnership, la Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) y Cetaqua Barcelona, cofundada como Centro Tecnológico del Agua por Aigües de Barcelona, el Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC) y la UPC. Se trata de un proyecto de I+D, que se inició en febrero de 2020 y finalizará en junio de 2022, financiado por la Agencia Catalana del Agua y con un presupuesto de 321.727 euros, que persigue el objetivo de ayudar a consolidar el agua regenerada como fuente de suministro de este recurso en Cataluña. The SUGGEREIX project will integrate information related to water quality management into reclamation and reuse processes, and generate new knowledge to facilitate decisionmaking in planning, managing and monitoring these processes. SUGGEREIX is an ambitious project that seeks to provide answers to many questions that still persist today in the area of water reuse. These include identifying potential risks to human health and ecosystems, and defining a monitoring system for the control of micro-pollutants and microbiological contaminants through the development of new tools to systematise the reuse of this resource.
