En 2020, AVEBIOM inventarió 169 centros de fabricación de biocombustibles sólidos repartidos por toda la geografía; 83 fábricas trade fair, turnover in the sector rose to 356 million euro in 2019, up 17.3% on the previous year. Following the upward trend of 2020, sales in 2021 could reach a new high, boosted by Expobiomasa 2021, due to be held on the 21st, 22nd, and 23rd of September. Now that the campaign to market the fair is well underway, exhibitors are responding very positively. Companies and trade visitors are enthusiastic and confident, and are eagerly looking forward to meeting their customers and suppliers in person once again. In 2021, AVEBIOM will organise the first Renewable Gas Show, in collaboration with sister association AEBIG. The event will afford an opportunity to showcase both proven technologies and those currently being developed, as well as providing a forum to discuss viable solutions and alternatives for the substitution of a significant percentage of the fossil gases used in Spain. Solid biofuels Solid biofuel production is enjoying the same upward trend as equipment installation. The record pellet production figure of 714,000 tonnes in 2019 was not exceeded in 2020 only because of the mild winter and the impact of pellet imports from Portugal. Pellet plants are expected to supply between 650,000 and 800,000 tonnes in 2021, accounting for close to 90% of expected national consumption. In 2020, AVEBIOM had a total of 169 solid biofuel manufacturing centres spread throughout Spain in its inventory; 83 pellet factories, 61 woodchip factories and 25 olive stone factories. By the end of the year, 37 plants and 28 distribution companies in Spain had placed more than 620,000 tonnes of ENplus®- certified pellets on the market, 82% of all pellets manufactured in the country. 2020 was also a special year for the world’s leading biomass certification system as it celebrated its 10th anniversary. According to Pablo Rodero, current president of the European Pellet Council and responsible for ENplus® certification in Spain, both the number of plants and total production will increase in the next two years. Jorge Herrero, director de la feria Expobiomasa Pablo Rodero, actual presidente del Consejo Europeo del Pellet y responsable de la certificación ENplus® Siguiendo la tendencia positiva de 2020, en 2021 las ventas podrían batir un nuevo récord, “la certificación es la mejor manera de asegurar a los consumidores de energía térmica un biocombustible de buena calidad a buen precio, por lo que esperamos un aumento de certificados BIOmasud® en los próximos años Jorge Herrero, director of the Expobiomasa trade fair Pablo Rodero, current president of the European Pellet Council and responsible for ENplus® Following the upward trend of 2020, sales in 2021 could reach a new high “certification is the best way to reassure thermal energy consumers that they are receiving good quality biofuel at a good price, so we expect BIOmasud® certification to grow in the coming years”
