La situación excepcional de crisis sanitaria ha hecho que durante este año las mascarillas se hayan convertido en una herramienta básica de nuestro día para combatir la COVID-19. Para poner de manifiesto la importancia de que estos residuos no terminen en los entornos naturales, LIBERA, con el apoyo de la Fundación Reina Sofía, fue de las primeras organizaciones en alertar sobre este problema. Para ello, puso en marcha en mayo la campaña #NoAbandonesTusGuantesYMascarillas para recalcar la importancia de ser responsables en la gestión de estos nuevos residuos y para que siempre acaben en la papelera o contenedor de resto, además de cortar sus gomas para evitar posibles enredos. ‘600píxeles2’ por la naturaleza y #MiPuebloSinBasuraleza, nuevas acciones de 2020 Por otro lado, una de las acciones más emblemáticas de LIBERA, ‘1m2por la naturaleza’, la gran recogida colectiva de basuraleza que cada año se organiza en el mes de junio, tuvo que reinventarse debido a la pandemia. Así surgió ‘LIBERA600píxeles2 por la naturaleza’, una variante virtual en la que cerca de 1.300 imágenes de espacios naturales españoles se compartieron en redes para hacer visibles su belleza y diversidad y reclamar que se mantengan libres de residuos. Por otra parte, teniendo en cuenta que en 2020 el turismo nacional tuvo más impacto, desde el Proyecto LIBERA se ideó la campaña #MiPuebloSinBasuraleza, una iniciativa para fomentar el turismo sostenible y respetuoso con la naturaleza a la que ya se han sumado más de 350 municipios de toda España así como la Junta de Extremadura y las Diputaciones de Ávila, Palencia y Segovia, para concienciar sobre el problema que supone el abandono de residuos, en este caso en los pueblos y entornos rurales. Actuando en los puntos negros y en nuevos espacios naturales Con la prevención como principal herramienta, LIBERA también ofrece a los Espacios Naturales Protegidos de toda España distintos recursos para facilitar y favorecer su conservación. En concreto, LIBERA ha trabajado con 143 espacios con figura de protección oficial. The result was ‘LIBERA600pixels2 for nature’, a virtual variation in which nearly 1,300 images of Spanish natural spaces were shared on social media to highlight their beauty and diversity, and to demand that they be kept free of waste. In addition, and bearing in mind the impact borne by the national tourism sector in 2020, the LIBERA Project devised the campaign #MiPuebloSinBasuraleza (my town without litter), an initiative to promote sustainable and nature-friendly tourism. The campaign has already been supported by over 350 municipalities throughout Spain as well as the Regional Government of Extremadura and the Provincial Councils of Ávila, Palencia and Segovia. The objective is to raise awareness of the problem of waste abandonment in villages and rural environments. Actions in black spots and new natural spaces With prevention as the main tool, LIBERA also offers Protected Natural Spaces throughout Spain different resources to facilitate and promote conservation. To this end, LIBERA has worked with 143 officially protected areas. In addition, the project continues to work on black spots such as ditches, a number of river basins, such as the Segura, the Tagus and the Ebro, ports and toilets, with a view to preventing waste from contaminating the environment. Since its inception, the project has focused on education as the main driver of raising awareness in order to put an end to littering in natural spaces. The education of young people is a priority for LIBERA.
