Turning operations are carried out automatically by means of worm screws (four per trolley), which move through the biowaste following a zig-zag route. The worm screws are immersed in the material at all times, apart from when the trolley is returning to the beginning of the cycle, when they are in a horizontal, non-operational position. The grinder discharge unit follows a similar route for the purpose of progressively unloading the accumulated material onto the inclined discharge wall during the first run. Therefore, the zig-zag cycle always starts on the discharge side and moves in the direction of the loading side. The turning cycle enables: • The biowaste to flow uniformly from the loading side to the discharge side in the established time period. • Recovery of the biowaste porosity, which tends to decrease during the process due to the weight of the material itself. • Homogenisation of the treatment conditions by inverting the layers of the bed. • The return of biowaste moisture content to optimum values by adding water directly to the material as it is turned by the worm screws. • Balancing of the reduction in volume caused by the biological process in order to keep the bed level constant. • Regulated discharge of the biostabilised/composted product on the discharge conveyor through the use of a grinder/milling device. The benefits of this system are: • Shorter transformation times. • Homogeneity of treatment without the formation of anaerobic pockets. • No material stratification, which prevents dry or excessively moist zones. • Highly-automated system with low labour requirements. • Reduction in volumes required for treatment. • Option to add water to the biowaste during turning, thus ensuring optimal moisture content. • Capacity to treat large biowaste quantities. • Automatic discharge. The biostabilisation/composting process is also equipped with a forced aeration system. This system consists of a number of tubes arranged on the reactor floor fitted with diffusion systems, Complejo Medioambiental de Reciclaje (CMR) de Loeches (Madrid) | Loeches Environmental Recycling Complex (CMR) (Madrid) FuturENVIRO® FuturENVIRO® FuturENVIRO®
