Gestión y tratamiento de residuos | Waste Management & Treatment Si hay algo que nadie -ni ciudadanos, empresas, instituciones ni autoridades públicas- puede discutir en pleno siglo XXI es que la innovación, en el más amplio sentido de su significado, es la llave que abre las puertas del desarrollo. Todo lo que está a nuestro alrededor evoluciona de manera constante mediante el desarrollo de nuevas tecnologías, ya que es posible incorporar la innovación en multitud e infinidad de ámbitos de nuestro día a día. Por eso, es imprescindible que esta revolución también ocurra en materia de protección medioambiental, porque un futuro sostenible no es posible sin una fuerte apuesta por la protección de nuestro planeta. Y es innegable que el reciclaje es, en este sentido, una de las herramientas más extendidas e interiorizadas por los ciudadanos, razón de sobra por la que no puede dejar de lado el gran poder de la innovación. Por ello, todos nuestros esfuerzos y conocimiento están ahora en estudiar y desarrollar nuevas tecnologías que den lugar a unas mejores prácticas en el ámbito de los envases y su posterior reciclado. En TheCircularLab somos firmes suscriptores y defensores de la Economía Circular, pues estamos convencidos de la que vieja economía lineal del “usar y tirar”, que es la que había imperado hasta el momento, ya no es factible en un nuevo contexto global en el que la sostenibilidad debe situarse siempre como prioridad y pilar en cada nueva innovación que se desarrolle, en cualquier ámbito. Puesto que uno de los pilares básicos de nuestra apuesta por la innovación es lograr alinear el crecimiento económico con el respeto al medioambiente, desde nuestros inicios comenzamos a trabajar en el desarrollo de fórmulas de reciclaje especialmente pensadas para que el ciudadano, la primera pieza de la cadena de engranaje que es el reciclaje, pudiera formar parte del proceso del reciclaje, teniendo en cuenta su opinión y criterio en el proceso de creación If there is one thing that nobody -citizens, businesses or public authorities- can dispute, well into the 21st century, it is the fact that innovation, in the broadest sense of the word, is the key to the door of development. And it cannot be denied that recycling is amongst the most widely implemented environmental protection tools, and one of the tools most internalised by citizens. This is an overriding reason why recycling cannot ignore the great power of innovation. Therefore, all our efforts and know-how are now being channelled into the study and development of new technologies that will give rise to best practices in the area of packaging and subsequent recycling of packaging waste. At TheCircularLab, we are firm believers in and defenders of the Circular Economy, because we are convinced that the old linear “use and throw” economy that has reigned until now is no longer feasible in a new global context in which sustainability must be a priority and the pillar of any innovation developed in any area. Given that aligning economic growth with environmental protection is a basic pillar of our commitment to innovation, we have, from the outset, worked on the development of recycling formulae that are specially designed to enable citizens, the first link in the recycling chain, to form part of the recycling process. This means taking into account their opinions and criteria in the setting up and validation of pilot projects. This is what we call “Citizen Science” and it is one of the challenges being addressed by our innovation centre. The project was born with the goal of enhancing the current recycling system, which has been widely implemented in Spain for over two decades.
