Quizás sea el momento también de valorar los servicios, en particular los servicios urbanos. Siempre de titularidad pública, independientemente del tipo de explotación, han estado al pie del cañón -como siempre- durante la pandemia. Ha sido un momento bueno para que el conjunto de la ciudadanía valore lo que siempre ha estado ahí, profesionales que nunca fallan y un servicio que facilita nuestro día a día. Me refiero a agua, electricidad, gas, residuos, telefonía e internet y un largo etc. Puede que estemos ante la oportunidad de poner en valor estos servicios, también como salida profesional para futuros empleados y empleadores. En este sentido, poco a poco se va dando más importancia a la Formación Profesional y, en particular, a la FP Dual (mezcla de teoría y de práctica en empresas del sector correspondiente). Las empresas lo tienen claro, y ya van unas cuantas del sector del agua urbana, que han apostado por este camino. El momento es crítico. El futuro está en juego. Hay que apostar por el empleo verde y azul de verdad. Empresas, asociaciones y diversas instituciones, llevan años reclamando inversión pública continuada en sectores que no llaman la atención, simplemente porque funcionan. Pero llegará un día en que se rompa una gran tubería de abastecimiento, se repitan los incumplimientos en cuanto a depuración y no se hayan adaptado las ciudades a las nuevas necesidades ambientales. Si no se invierte, es lo que ocurrirá. Recuerdo una entrevista radiofónica en el año 2014 con el Presidente del Colegio de Ingenieros de Montes. El locutor-entrevistador le preguntaba por la falta de trabajo en el sector. El Presidente, le corrigió diciendo que trabajo había y mucho, pues existía un listado interminable de cosas por hacer, otra cosa es que no se destinaran partidas presupuestarias a estos menesteres. Esperemos que en el futuro inmediato esta situación no se vuelva a repetir. Lo urgente, es muchas veces enemigo de lo importante. No se puede abandonar al sector servicios y a cada uno de sus subsectores, pues cumplen una labor no sólo medioambiental, sino sanitaria y social, de puerta a puerta. España se la juega. Sin unas políticas públicas acertadas, que favorezcan la empleabilidad en todo el territorio nacional (algo realmente difícil cuando hay más de un 50% del país con densidades de población bajísimas), nos dirigiremos, de nuevo, a una crisis larga. Y esto, como dice el propio Boletín Oficial del Estado, afectará sobre todo a “las personas con contrato temporal, y dentro de éstas, sobre las trabajadoras y trabajadores jóvenes”. This has provided citizens with an opportunity to appreciate what has always been there, i.e., professionals that never fail to deliver and services that facilitate our everyday lives. I’m referring to water, electricity, gas, waste, telephony and internet, and a long list of other services. This may well be the time to emphasise the value of these services as well as the professional opportunities they provide for future employees and employers. In this context, more importance is gradually being placed on vocational training and particularly on dual vocational training (a mix of theoretical and practical in-company training in the sector in question). Companies are committed to this model and many urban water sector businesses have already opted for this route. This is a critical time. The future is at stake.We must make a commitment to truly green and blue jobs. For years, companies, trade associations and institutions of different types have been calling for ongoing public investment in sectors that do not attract attention, for the simple reason that they work. But the day will come when a large water mains will burst, non-compliance in wastewater treatment will continue and cities will not have been adapted to new environmental needs.Without investment, this is what will happen. I remember a radio interview in 2014 with the President of the Professional Association of Forestry Engineers. The interviewer questioned him on the lack of work in the sector. The President corrected him, saying that there was work, and a lot of it, because there was an endless list of things to be done. Another matter was whether budgetary allocations would be made available to carry out this work. Our hope is that this situation will not repeat itself in the immediate future.What is urgent is often the enemy of what is important. The services sector and each of its subsectors cannot be abandoned, because not only do they carry out environmental work but also health and social work, from door to door. Spain is taking a risk.Without the right public policies, policies that facilitate employability throughout national territory (a great challenge when over 50% of the country has extremely low population densities), we are once again heading towards a long crisis. And, as the Official State Gazette says, this will particularly affect “people with temporary contracts and, within this group, young workers”. Let’s fight to prevent this from happening.
