Lavarse las manos se ha convertido en un acto más consciente, siendo ampliamente promovido como una defensa primordial contra la infección. Las comunidades incapaces de proporcionar un servicio continuo a sus ciudadanos y los sistemas de salud se han visto peligrosamente expuestos. El personal relacionado con el tratamiento y provisionamiento de agua ha hecho con diligencia su trabajo entre bastidores, manteniendo la infraestructura clave funcionando en todo el mundo y evitando que la sociedad se paralice por completo. Unfortunately, the level of investment in water infrastructure remains perennially low, with many countries still employing tired and lineal systems that can no longer cope, many of them falling apart. Matt Damon made the profound comparison between cancer and our water situation in the Brave BlueWorld documentary: “Imagine if tomorrow we cured cancer, yet in 100 years there were still a million kids dying from it”, highlighting that, while we have the answers to safe water supply and sanitation for everyone, society does not give it enough priority for universal access to become a reality. There is good reason for hope, however. As Matt put it, “how lucky are we that we get to solve this”. “An army of innovators” is finding, developing and implementing solutions that prevent 95% of “single-use”water from simply being thrown away. Collecting, separating, cleaning, purifying, polishing, using, collecting... Treating it well, respecting its importance to us by purifying it well. TREATING WATER BETTER – OF OUR ATTITUDE TO H2O AND THE TECHNOLOGIES WE USE TO PURIFY IT We all knowwhy we are water professionals. It is born from a deep understanding of the value of water in our lives and the desire to give people a plentiful, safe supply. It is a testament to howwater-secure many societies are, that it is usually taken for granted there. Conversely, in areas that cannot rely upon its supply, water is precious and getting it often the primary task for females in the family, preventing them from getting an education and pursuing their own path. Lamentably, the number of people lacking access to clean water and sanitation remains unbelievably high. Not only are communities that face this daily struggle impoverished and hindered in their development, but countless human beings die as a result. TRATAR MEJOR EL AGUA - DE NUESTRA RELACIÓN CON EL AGUA Y LAS TECNOLOGÍAS QUE USAMOS PARA PURIFICARLA Todos sabemos por qué somos profesionales del agua. Nace de una profunda comprensión del valor del agua en nuestras vidas y el deseo de dar a las personas un suministro abundante y seguro. Es un testimonio de como el agua es segura en muchas sociedades que se da por sentado. Por el contrario, en áreas sin abastecimiento fiable, el agua es muy preciada y conseguirla es por lo general la principal tarea de las mujeres de la familia, lo que limita el acceso a la educación y su desarrollo social y profesional.
