www.futurenviro.es FuturEnviro | Junio/Julio June/July 2020 5 Editorial Editorial El sector del agua puede ser una pieza clave dentro de la estrategia europea de salida de la crisis del COVID-19 Recientemente, la Asociación Española de Abastecimientos de Agua y Saneamiento (AEAS) y la Asociación Española de Empresas Gestoras de los Servicios de Agua Urbana (AGA) hacían llegar al Gobierno, CC.AA. y Ayuntamientos la propuesta del sector del agua urbana para contribuir a la recuperación sostenible, tras la crisis provocada por el COVID-19 y que está recogida en el Estudio “El sector del ciclo urbano del agua como vector de recuperación sostenible tras la crisis del COVID-19”, que podéis leer en nuestra web. El sector del agua urbana propone ser vector de recuperación social, medioambiental y económica, generando más de 43.000 empleos anuales a tiempo completo en España. La inversión en infraestructuras de agua, es una de las actividades más intensivas en empleo local. Ante esta situación sin precedentes, el sector urbano del agua puede ser una pieza clave dentro de la estrategia europea de salida de la crisis del COVID-19. Esta estrategia europea se basa en fomentar la economía circular, la transición ecológica, la digitalización, el big data y las nuevas tecnologías adaptadas, en lo que se ha venido a denominar el Green-Deal (Pacto Verde) europeo. Si al presupuesto europeo le añadimos el fondo de reconstrucción europea, el resultado es una movilización de recursos que podría sumar 1,85 billones de euros. Por su lado, el Gobierno de España ya anunció en enero un plan de renovación y rehabilitación de infraestructuras por 80.000 M€ y, tras el COVID-19, espera reforzar dicho plan captando hasta 140.000 M€ complementándolo con los fondos de recuperación europeos. En este contexto, el sector del agua urbana presenta una serie de factores que le hacen idóneo para ser una palanca en la recuperación y un impulsor del Green-Deal. Water sector could play key role in European strategy to emerge from COVID-19 crisis The Spanish Association of Water Supply and Sanitation (AEAS), and the Spanish Association of UrbanWater Service Management Companies (AGA) recently presented the urban water sector proposal for sustainable economic recovery following the COVID-19 crisis to the Government, Autonomous Communities and Municipal Councils. This proposal is embodied in a Study entitled “The urban water sector as a driver of sustainable recovery following the COVID-19 crisis”, which can be read on our website. The urban water sector seeks to be a driver of social, environmental and economic recovery, through the creation of over 43,000 full-time jobs per annum in Spain. Investment in water infrastructures is amongst the most important activities in terms of creating local employment. In the current unprecedented situation, the urban water sector could play a key role in the European strategy to emerge from the COVID-19 crisis. This strategy is based on fostering the circular economy, ecological transition, digitisation, big data and adapted new technologies, through what has become known as the European Green Deal. If we add this to the European pandemic recovery fund, we could see the mobilisation of a total sum of up to €1.85 trillion. In January, the Spanish Government announced an infrastructure renewal and rehabilitation plan with a budget of €80 billion. In the wake of the COVID-19 crisis, it expects to increase that budget to anywhere up to €140 billion, through the implementation of European recovery funds.
