www.futurenviro.es FuturEnviro | Mayo May 2019 5 Editorial Editorial Por un planeta sin contaminación del aire Como cada 5 de junio, el Día Mundial del Medio Ambiente se centra año tras año en un tema con el que concienciar al público sobre un asunto ambiental. Este 2019 ha sido la contaminación del aire; una llamada a la acción con la que ayudar a combatir un grave problema que afecta a millones de personas en todo el mundo. La contaminación del aire representa un importante riesgo medioambiental para la salud. Nueve de cada diez personas en todo el mundo, están expuestas a niveles de contaminación que superan los niveles de seguridad señalados por la Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS). Mediante la disminución de los niveles de contaminación del aire los países pueden reducir la mortalidad derivada de accidentes cerebrovasculares, cáncer de pulmón y neumopatías crónicas y agudas, entre ellas el asma. Entre las causas de la contaminación, destacar la quema de residuos a cielo abierto y los desechos orgánicos en los vertederos, liberan a la atmósfera dioxinas nocivas, furanos, metano y carbono negro. A nivel mundial, se estima que 40% de los residuos se quema al aire libre, un problema que resulta más grave en las regiones que se están urbanizando y en los países en desarrollo. Por nuestra parte, nos preocupamos y ocupamos del Planeta Tierra, cuidándolo y difundiendo toda la actualidad y novedades del sector medioambiental. For a planet without air pollution On June 5th each year,World Environment Day focuses on a theme in order to raise awareness of a specific environmental issue. In 2019, the issue was air pollution, representing a call for action to help combat a serious problem that affects millions of people all over the globe. Air pollution is a serious environmental health risk. Nine out of ten people worldwide are exposed to pollution levels that exceed the safety levels established by theWorld Health Organisation (WHO). By lowering air pollution levels, countries can reduce deaths from strokes, lung cancer, and chronic and acute lung disease, including asthma. With respect to the causes of pollution, we would highlight open air burning of waste and organic waste in landfills, which release noxious dioxins, furans, methane and carbon black into the atmosphere. It is estimated that 40% of waste worldwide is subjected to open air burning. This problem is more serious in regions where urban development is taking place and in developing countries.
