en la campaña a más de 15.000 establecimientos hosteleros y reforzaremos los servicios de más de un centenar de municipios del litoral español con iniciativas de información, sensibilización y refuerzos de infraestructura con el objetivo de mejorar las tasas de reciclaje. Un futuro lleno de retos La nueva normativa fijada por Europa y, que se encuentra a la espera de transposición estatal, servirá de impulso regulatorio para avanzar en materia de residuos. Este nuevo marco fija unos objetivos de tasa de reciclado de vidrio ambiciosos (del 70% en 2025 y del 75% en 2030), aunque estamos a la espera de la definición del nuevo método de cálculo que permitirá mayor comparabilidad entre los estados miembro. En Ecovidrio somos optimistas y aspiramos a reciclar el 100%. Tenemos la capacidad y la ilusión para lograrlo y, por ello, contamos con un Plan Estratégico y un paquete de inversiones de 70.5 millones de euros previsto para este año. Trabajaremos en la intensificación de actuaciones en el canal Horeca, la instalación de contenedores y la apuesta continua por la movilización, entre otros ejes. Pero no podemos hacerlo solos. Para que el sistema SCRAP (Sistema Colectivo de Responsabilidad Ampliada del Productor) esté completo, necesitamos que las administraciones públicas den un paso al frente en la incorporación de medidas complementarias afines al modelo contenedor que aceleren el crecimiento de la tasa de reciclado de envases de vidrio. En este sentido, nos parece imprescindible que se lleven a cabo medidas que están funcionando con éxito en otros países europeos como, por ejemplo, que se establezca la obligatoriedad a los grandes generadores de separar en origen los residuos, mediante ordenanzas municipales y seguimeinto de su cumplimiento. Otra de las medidas clave será incrementar el canon al vertido, no podemos consentir que depositar los residuos en vertedero sea una opción más barata que hacer las cosas bien. En lo relacionado con la fiscalidad ambiental, consideramos fundamental la transparencia y equidad en el pago de la tasa de basuras. Los ciudadanos tienen derecho a saber cuánto pagan de forma desagregada y que exista la opción de que los tributos se diseñen en función de aquellos que reciclen más y mejor. Este tipo de medidas se aplican ya en los países de nuestro entorno como Bélgica, Austria y Suiza que han demostrado ser un referente en referentes en materia de reciclado. La lucha contra el cambio climático y la transición hacia un modelo de desarrollo más sostenible son compromisos a los que debemos hacer frente de manera urgente. La voluntad de consolidar a nuestro país como un referente en sostenibilidad y la incorporación de medidas concretas ambiciosas, indudablemente, impulsarán a España a situarse a la cabeza de Europa en materia de gestión de residuos. Tenemos grandes retos por delante, pero trabajamos con la ilusión y el convencimiento de que lograremos superar los objetivos marcados. Estamos preparados; reciclar hoy es construir el mañana. months, our team travels around the municipalities of the Mediterranean coast to promote glass recycling in beach bars and catering establishments. This year, we will involve over 15,000 catering establishments in the campaign and we will reinforce collection services in over 100 municipalities on the Spanish coast, with information and awareness campaigns, and improved infrastructure, with a view to further improving recycling rates. A future with many challenges The new European legislation, currently awaiting transposition into state law, will serve as a regulatory driver of progress in the area of waste. This legislation sets ambitious glass recycling targets (of 70% by 2025 and 75% by 2030), although we are still awaiting definition of the new calculation method to facilitate greater comparability amongst member states. At Ecovidrio, we are optimists and our aspiration is to recycle 100%.We have the capacity and the enthusiasm to achieve this, and we have a Strategic Plan and an investment package of 70.5 million euro for this year.We will work on stepping up initiatives in the catering channel and container deployment, and we will also continue working on the mobilisation of citizens, amongst other areas of activity. But we cannot do it alone. In order to complete the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) collective system, we need public authorities to implement other compatible measures to complement the container model in order to accelerate the growth in glass container recycling rates. In this respect, we consider it vital to implement measures that are working successfully in other European countries, such as municipal by-laws making it compulsory for large waste producers to separate waste at source and ensuring that this obligation is fulfilled. Another key measure would be to increase landfill charges.We cannot allow disposal of waste in landfills to be cheaper than doing things properly. With respect to environmental taxation, we believe transparency and equity in waste charges to be of vital importance. Citizens have a right to be given a breakdown of what they pay and taxes should be designed to reward those who recycle more and in a better way. These types of measures are already applied in neighbouring countries, such as Belgium, Austria and Switzerland, countries which have proved themselves to be leaders in the area of recycling. The fight against climate change and the transition to a more sustainable development model are challenges that we must address urgently. The will to consolidate our country’s position as a benchmark in sustainability and the implementation of specific, ambitious measures will undoubtedly help Spain to become a leading European country in the area of waste management. Great challenges lie ahead but we are working with enthusiasm and the conviction that we will achieve the targets that have been set.We are ready; recycling today is the key to building tomorrow.
