El proyecto LIBERA, impulsado por SEO/BirdLife en alianza con Ecoembes ha celebrado la tercera edición de ‘1m2 por la naturaleza’, la gran recogida ciudadana contra la basuraleza. Cerca de 13.000 voluntarios, 13.000 Héroes LIBERA, han participado en la iniciativa recogiendo un total de 83 toneladas de residuos de entornos terrestres, fluviales y marinos de todas las provincias españolas y de las dos ciudades autónomas. Entre esas toneladas, 11.000 kilogramos pertenecen a lo que han recogido de fondos marinos la Red de Vigilantes Marinos que colabora en el Proyecto LIBERA. El objetivo de LIBERA con la campaña de ‘1m2 por la naturaleza’ es concienciar a la sociedad sobre este problema ambiental a través de una acción en campo que permite visibilizar la realidad de su impacto en los espacios naturales. Las recogidas de basuraleza se han desarrollado en más de 450 puntos de espacio naturales de gran valor ecológico gracias al apoyo de los ciudadanos, de entidades sociales, de ayuntamientos y de empresas que salieron durante unas horas a limpiar su entorno más cercano. Además, un año más, su Majestad la Reina Doña Sofía a través de su Fundación ha mostrado su apoyo al proyecto LIBERA participando en una recogida en el embalse de Valmayor (Madrid). Un compromiso que sematerializa no solo con‘1m2 por la naturaleza’ ya que la Fundación Reina Sofía ha participado también en las acciones de ciencia ciudadana ‘1m2 por las playas y los mares’. La UTE TEM formada por Veolia (47%), Valoriza (47%) y Suris (6%) realizó hace dos años una inversión de casi un 1 M€ en las instalaciones del Centro Integral de Valorización de Residuos del Maresme, que permitido incrementar el porcentaje de valorización de residuos en más de un 42% en un año completo desde la implementación de las obras. El objetivo de la reforma era optimizar la selección de los materiales y aumentar el porcentaje de residuos reciclados. Durante los próximos meses, se llevará a cabo una modificación que permita una valorización alternativa del biogás generado en la biometanización, así como aprovechar la totalidad de este biogás sin perder parte del mismo por indisponibilidades de los motores de cogeneración, utilizándose para el calentamiento del aire primario del proceso de la valorización energética. Esto permitirá utilizar el vapor generado para producir electricidad y no para el calentamiento, tal y como ocurría hasta ahora. Por otra parte, se potenciará la biometanización frente al compostaje ya sobrecargado para que el centro sea más eficiente. Este año, además, se pondrá en marcha la nueva línea de recuperación de vidrio tras el compostaje, que permitirá seleccionar, clasificar y recuperar el vidrio que continúa presente en la materia orgánica al final del proceso de tratamiento de la materia orgánica. Esta nueva línea de clasificación y recuperación recogerá el vidrio procedente del proceso de afinado de bioestabilizado y de la extracción de pesados de los pulperes de biometanización. Con esta nueva implementación, se prevé que la cantidad anual de vidrio recuperado sea de 4.500 toneladas, con un aumento del índice de recuperación del 2% sobre las toneladas de entrada a planta. Almost 13,000 volunteers, 13,000 LIBERA Heroes, participated in the initiative and collected a total of 83 tonnes of waste from terrestrial, river and marine environments throughout all the provinces of Spain and the two autonomous cities. 11,000 tonnes of this total was collected from the seafloor by the Red de Vigilantes Marinos (MarineWatch Network), who collaborate in the LIBERA project. This will enable the steam produced to be used in the generation of electricity, and not for heating, as has occurred until now. Moreover, biomethanisation will be given greater weight compared to the already overloaded composting process, thereby making the centre more efficient. This year will also see the commissioning of a new glass recovery line subsequent to composting. The new line will enable the separation, sorting and recovery of glass still present in the organic matter at the end of the organic matter treatment process. The line will collect the glass from the biostabilisation refining process and from the extraction of heavy materials from the biomethanisation pulpers. The implementation of the new line is expected to give rise to an annual quantity of recovered glass of 4,500 tonnes, representing a 2% increase in the recovery rate of waste entering the centre.
