Desalación | Desalination FuturEnviro | Abril April 2019 www.futurenviro.es 49 Conscientes de los desafíos que el cambio climático, el crecimiento poblacional y el desarrollo económico e industrial implican para el acceso y abastecimiento de agua potable; gobiernos y organizaciones públicas y privadas en América Latina proyectan inversiones estratégicas orientadas al impulso de la desalación y tratamiento de agua y efluentes para su reúso y/o consumo como alternativas viables para mitigar el limitado acceso a agua. La Asociación Latinoamericana de Desalación y Reúso de Agua, ALADYR, apoya este esfuerzo mediante la generación de espacios y encuentros propicios para la formación, capacitación y actualización de conocimientos oportunos en aras de fomentar la aplicación de estas alternativas bajo estándares de sustentabilidad y beneficio social. Uno de estos encuentros se dio el pasado 20 y 21 de marzo en Buenos Aires, el siguiente será los días 22 y 23 de mayo en la ciudad de Salvador en Brasil. América Latina posee el 31% de las reservas de agua dulce en del mundo. En comparación, Asia, donde vive el 60% de la población mundial, solo concentra el 28% de este recurso. Este contraste evidencia que la escasez en el suministro poblacional de agua en América Latina expone la debilidad de algunos países de la región sobre la gestión eficiente de sus recursos hídricos. Governments, and public and private organisations in Latin America are aware of the challenges posed by climate change, population growth and economic and industrial development, and the associated implications for drinking water access and supply. They are, therefore, planning strategic investments aimed at fostering desalination, water treatment, and wastewater treatment for reuse and/or consumption, as viable alternatives to mitigate limited access to water. The Latin American Association of Desalination andWater Reuse (ALADYR) is supporting this effort through the creation of spaces and events for the purposes of training and updating of knowledge. The aim is to foster the implementation of these alternatives within the framework of sustainability and social benefit standards. One of these events was held on March 20 and 21 in Buenos Aires, and another will be held on May 22 and 23 in the city of Salvador in Brazil. 31% of the worlds freshwater reserves are in Latin America. ALADYR OPTIMISTIC ON FORTHCOMING WATER MANAGEMENT CHALLENGES IN LATIN AMERICA The water situation in Latin America is facing challenges such as climate change, emerging pollutants and overexploitation of urban water sources due to leaks in supply networks. However, governments and private enterprises are taking action to address these challenges.
