abs EVENTS Elevcon 2016. The 21st International Congress of Vertical Transportation Technology will take place from 10th to 12th May in the Hilton Hotel in Madrid, this time with a significant Spanish presence, both in terms of the organising committee and the main speakers at the conferences to be held at this international event, organised by the IAEE (International Association of Elevator Engineers). Liftex is the only event in the UK dedicated to the lift and escalator industry. It brings together over 100 leading international suppliers in the sector and it takes place only once every three years. In 2016, it is being organised by the sector association LEIA, and it will be held on 25th and 26th May in London’s ExCeL. ASSOCIATIONS GEDAC: The Lift Guild of Catalonia held its Extraordinary Assembly on 16th December, 2015 in the Hotel Crowne fairgrounds in Barcelona, attended by 90 people and with representation from 42 companies. In the line of collaboration between the Guild and professional training schools, on 4th February, a group of students from the Girona secondary school IES Narcis Xifra visited the facilities of the company City Lift. The Lift Guild has received business recognition for being the oldest member company from Pimec. FEEDA: The Spanish Business Federation of Lifts has just published a guidebook to explain the rights and obligations of owners of lifts in order to avoid any risk of accidents while they are being used or maintained. On 4th February, EIGEL held the General Assembly of the Association, in which all of the associated companies participated. It also organised a technical workshop on the Legislative Framework of Vertical Transport. ELA, the European Lift Association, has created a manual that sets out general and specific practices that should be followed at all times in the installation, maintenance, repair, and modernisation of lifts. The European Lift Group (GAE) held an informational workshop on 17th February about the new Community regulations EN 81-20 and EN 81-50.
