ASSOCIATIONS GEDAC: High attendance at the conference on the new Standard UNE-EN 81-20 and 81-50 and Lift Safety Directive 2014/33/EU sponsored by ECA Bureau Veritas and GEDAC confirmed interest from the sector in the subject and the successful timing of the event. It was attended by nearly 50 companies and monitoring bodies, with a total of 120 people present at presentation and analysis sessions on the new harmonized standards and the new lift directive held by experts of FEEDA (the Spanish Federation of Lift Companies). The Federation provides training within institutes, in collaboration with Gervall and Eninter, and it also urges modernisation of lifts with cylindrical, hollow wooden guides. Fepyma: At the meeting of presidents in Logroño, which informed of the latest standards developments in the sector, support was registered for the technical and business training programme initiated last year and for attracting a greater number of partners, to provide an effective counterbalance against the power of a small few. FEEDA: The responsibilities of lift companies and increased lift safety were the main topics at two technical conferences organized, respectively, by the AEAA (Aragon Association of Lift Companies) in Zaragoza and the AEGA (Gal ician Li ft Business Association) in Santiago de Compostela, together with the Spanish Federation of Lift Companies, FEEDA. ELA: The Conference and General Assembly 2015, held this year in Paris at the invitation of the French Lift Association abs (Fédération des Ascenseurs), set an atten-dance record with the participation of 230 professionals and guests. The conference was structured around the theme «Lifts in the European Energy Scene», and in his opening speech Philippe Lamalle, the hitherto President of ELA, made it clear that lifts and escalators will be crucial players in the future evolution of society, in view of the developments that are bound to shape our world. EVENTS The 14th Asansör Istanbul International Lift Exhibition 2015 officially opened with a ceremony attended by local authorities and representatives of IFO, AYSAD and ELA. The goal here was to emphasise the international impact of an event held in a country in full expansion and which also acts as a bridge to the large, emerging market of the East. Asansör Istanbul, launched here over 30% more floor space and a much higher volume of exhibitors, has always been supported by Ayakkabi Yan Sanayicileri Derneði (AYSAD). Among key themes was investigation into a type of elevator characterized by safety, speed, capacity, sustainability, efficiency and quality, all within a geographical area in which the aesthetics devices are known for a distinctive personality. Day two of Asansör Istanbul was allocated for a programme of lectures and conferences remarkable for their agility in presenting different points of view. This was reflected throughout the entire day, at times through the approach taken by the speakers themselves and sometimes thanks to the spontaneous comments of those in attendance. Spanish participation at Asansör Istanbul 2015 was the result of a progressive commitment to internationalisation on the part of lift component manufacturers from the country. Both companies who presented their products and solut ions independently and those who chose to do so through local distributors or dealers have understood the importance of face-to-face dealing for Turkish customers.
