Homelift: the most evolved lift The homelift appears to have deviated from the general market trend for lifts and now follows its own dynamic path. In the middle of general stagnation and slow sales, the homelift shows a speed of growth that proves that it is one of the pieces of equipment in the sector with the best progress in the market, gaining market share against conventional lifts. That is why most companies in the sector offer their own homelift solutions, and most lift companies, whether large or small, include one or more homelift models in their catalogues. However, the recent ITC lift technical regulations approved by Royal Decree 88/2013 has changed the prevailing regulatory framework in Spain and, from 2015 it will be obligatory to register homelifts and enter into a maintenance contract, which definitively ends the argument that «a homelift does not need maintenance». Door space detection: change in standards The infra-red sensor and curtain sectors for lift doors is progressing in pace with the increasingly demanding safety parameters implemented in the lift industry, but could receive a strong boost from the new EN 8120 standard, which from 2017 will make it mandatory for automatic doors in new lifts to contain detection devices for objects over 50 mm high. Manufacturers in the sector are working hard to comply with this new provision. The development of new ultra-fast batteries with a long useful life, based on nanotechnology, will have a great impact on many industries, including the lift industry. In his article «Machinery Directives: Legalisation, Adaptation and Registration of Slow Lifts not Complying with Royal Decree 1644/2008», Antonio A. Llaguno Sauquillo, technical director of Turboiber Elevación, analyses the problems arising from the interpretation of Directive 2006/ 42/EC for Machinery regarding these types of lifts made by the recent Royal Decree 88/2013 that approves the new ITC technical regulations. The HES (Hydraulic Energy Saving) project, as a consequence of the Morispain slogan hydraulics in motion, aims to provide the field of hydraulics for lifts with the best technical developments in order to improve energy use. A selection of texts about elevation, mainly focused on regulations, technology and energy efficiency, providing professionals with access to specific knowledge and training, seen as tools of excellence that will help them to position themselves in the sector.
