In course the plan of preventive surveillance against the virus 'Schmallenberg', presented by the MARM

The past 2 February, the MARM gave to know the preventive plan elaborated to face up to the illness of Schmallenberg to the bosses of the veterinary services of the autonomous communities. Some days afterwards, the autonomous communities have set up said program, although the illness still has not arrived to our country. Even so, yes it has caused a series of estragos in the cabin vaccine, ovina and caprina of some European countries. In Germany, Holland and Belgium already have jumped the alarms, although
also they begin to notice his effects, from does some weeks, in
the United Kingdom and the north of France. In the country germano, where detected
for the first time during the past summer, elevate to 44 the number
of farms affected; whereas in Belgium rises to 126 and in
Holland have detected animal infected in near of 250
exploitations.

The 'Schmallenberg' is a variant of an African virus very known, the Akabane, and transmits by insects culicoides, like the blue tongue and also, by road placentaria. Although it does not affect to the won adult, causes malformations, death of foetus or nervous pictures in animals recently cream. Likewise, it generates a big impact in the profitability of the exploitations, since it causes fevers, diarrhoeas and
decrease of the production lechera.
