Small Extremadura agricultural producers say no to the increase in fees in irrigation
December 17, 2010
As reported in press conference the Union of small farmers and ranchers (Upa-Uce) this measure would affect more than 53 thousand hectares in communities Vegas Altas I, II, III and the Canal de Orellana. For Ignacio Huertas, Secretary general of this organization, the increase is a "uploaded disproportionate and unilateral by the Confederacy that summer had announced an increase of only 3% and now without information, announce this irregular collection".
It was reported in the press conference that with this increase the Confederation will raise 3 million euros more than last year reaching the 10 million that will raise this year.
The spokesman of the Extremadura organization considers the irrational increase in a time of crisis as that happens the sector and affecting family farms of irrigation systems, making this cost in an "insurmountable obstacle and an attack on the viability of our farms".
Also faced with this situation, Ignacio Huertas threatened with Upa-Uce must take measures and propose to the irrigators to carry out actions ranging from judicial recourse rates until convened demonstrations if the Confederation does not provide any solution to this problem at the meeting which will continue tomorrow with the four communities of irrigators in the Vegas Altas.
