Gamesa has reinforced its presence in China with the start of the construction of its fifth production centre in the Asian country, in the city of Da'an, in the province of Jilin (in the Northwest of the country), one of the main Chinese wind areas. Aimed at the manufacture of G8X-2MW Wind turbines and with a production capacity of 500 MW per year, the plant will begin operating in mid-2011.
The presence of Gamesa in China dates back to the year 2000, although the expansion of its production base and its activity of promotion of parks has intensified in the past five years. In 2009, China accounted for 15% of the total of MW sold by Gamesa worldwide.
In the actuality, the company has four productive centres (shovels, generators, assembling of nacelles and multiplicadoras) in the province of Tianjin and employs to 1.000 workers.
In China, the company has installed a total of 2.000 turbines of the model Gamesa G5X-850\1kW\2 in more than 60 locations. In 2010, it has begun the industrial development of the machine Gamesa G8X-2,0 MW, that supposes a total of 400 MW of new capacity, until reaching the 1.000 MW/year. With the incorporation of the plant of Jilin, this capacity of production would elevate in a year to more than 1.500 MW.
In the area of promotion of parks, Gamesa manages a total portfolio of 2,400 MW in different stages of development in the country. In the past year, the company has accompanied the wind expansion driven by the Government of the country and its main clients, with the signing of more than 700 MW in agreements for the implementation of promotions, with local businesses, in the provinces of greater growth potential of wind power.
During the first months of 2010, Gamesa and its partner China Guangdong Nuclear Wind have launched its first Park (49.3 MW), in Taipingshan, in Shandong province. It also has other five wind farms with a total of 200 MW in construction.
