The PVC Windows, the future of Windows and doors
November 4, 2009
Working from Asoven, the manufacturers of PVC Windows and profiles acquire the commitment to develop standards of quality required and its dissemination. Promoting certifications and assurances of the processes of quality by the bodies concerned.
Joinery in PVC complies with the technical requirements of the CTE (technical building code) in all Spain.
Asoven supports and argues the PVC window
- Maximum energy savings at thermal and acoustic levels. Providing comfort, insulation and tightness.
- Respect and care for the environment within a sustainable development.
- PVC Windows do not need maintenance and remain unchanged at the passage of time.
Extrusion of profiles
From the 'compound' of PVC, in powder or grain, it gets into a heated cylinder through the funnel of the extrusion machine installation. In this cylinder rotates a worm, which is responsible for making the homogeneous mass, let State plastic and push it towards the mouthpiece of the matrix where the material receives the desired shape of the profile. Together with the matrix is the gauge where the profile is hardened and calibration.

Thermal insulation
It is the amount of heat which airs of a site to another through the surfaces of the materials that separate these centers. On Windows: profiles and the glazing. The air flow-rate in m3/h which is exchanged through the boards of the window between framework and expressed per lineal metre of Board sheet when there is a difference of pressure of 1 kp/m2, is represented by the coefficient [m3/h x m(kp/m__2_)].
The thermal insulation is the most effective measure for energy efficiency and for the protection of the environment. With a correct thermal insulation, we can reduce more than 50% of energy consumption of the building.
Technical building code
The building planning law (LOE) adopted the code technician of the building CTE-HE in March 2006. The aim is to meet the basic demands of the energy demand limitation to achieve thermal wellbeing. By which buildings must have an envelope of features appropriate depending on the climate of the town, from the use of the building and the regime of summer and winter, as well as of its insulation and inertia, permeability to air and exposure to solar radiation.
The improvements that will result in the CTE:
- Greater security in the structure of the buildings in new construction.
- Increased security against possible risk of fire in buildings.
- Reducing the risk of domestic accidents.
- Greater hygiene and protection for the environment.
- Installation of solar panels.
- Increase of energy efficiency.
- More sound insulation for buildings of new work and rehabilitation which will run from 2008.
The use and installation of PVC Windows reduce energy consumption in households by 45%, according to a study conducted by the Polytechnic University of Catalonia. This is, according to experts, a material key to also meet the requirements of the Kyoto Protocol.
The Council of Ministers approved on January 19 2007 the Royal Decree laying down that, starting this year, new construction buildings and those who were rehabilitated should have certification of energy efficiency.
This Royal Decree is supplemented by the new regulatory framework on energy efficiency along with the technical building code.
To achieve a high energy rating of the building, the thermal insulation is far more simple, efficient, profitable and sustainable.
Compulsory implementation of the HR DB (acoustics). On April 24, 2009 it entered into force the DB HR basic document of protection against noise of CTE.
Window manufacturers must be able to ensure acoustic benefits required to their Windows, including if applicable, the drawers of blinds and vents of the Windows, i.e. the acoustic benefits of the whole provided must comply with the requirements imposed by the HR DB for the hollowbacked by the prescribed tests.
PVC joinery with a sustainable construction
PVC carpentry is an industrial sector that is fully committed to the same goals and purposes that sustainable construction as we analyze the 6 basic points which are chronologically developed the environmental study of a brand new building:
- The extraction of raw materials and resource consumption. All the manufacturers of PVC as a raw have granted the environmental ISO 14001. The ecological balance of the PVC carpentry is favourable.
- Production and transport. The manufacture of PVC carpentry is highly tech and there is no emissions or pollution of any kind. All the cuts of PVC profiles rejected during the manufacturing process are recycled to 100%.
- Period of life useful. Joinery in PVC has a half-life of 50 years, classifying material as 'of life long period', within the construction following the ISO 14,000 standard.
- Demolition. In this case the selective recovery and separation of materials. In the process of demolition Gets a recycling of existing waste 100% of the cases.
- Recovery of the waste. Sector joinery in PVC subrogates European initiative and signed letter with the common objectives to the voluntary commitment of 2010, where PVC joinery with its own industry seeks to increase the amounts to be recycled at the end of the life of the application and to direct a sustainable future for PVC joinery. At present, waste postconsumo of joinery in PVC in Spain are very small because it has only 25 years and has not fulfilled its useful life period.
- Saving energy is to reduce pollution. One of the most relevant features of PVC carpentry is extraordinary and very high thermal and acoustic insulation, and a proper isolation is essential for using energy rationally and reducing the emission of CO2 into the atmosphere.
PVC Windows more than the other materials used for the manufacture of carpentry help minimize emissions of CO2 into the atmosphere throughout its life cycle.
The research has led to the comparative study of energy efficiency of the cycle of life of the most common materials used in the manufacture of aluminium, wood and PVC in Spain Windows.
PVC Windows reduce the emissions of CO2 into the atmosphere by 161% for aluminium Windows and 52 per cent over the wooden Windows.
