Silicone sealants create an iconic monument in the desert
April 28, 2008
Located in the desert, the new building Burj Dubai Tower has a height of more than 600 meters and has been constructed under the parameter to be the tallest building in the world. In this way, the Tower will become the tallest structure in the world by man. For its construction, Burj Dubai has Dow Corning silicone sealants.
"Sealing products used in the construction of Burj Dubai had to be able to coexist with the heart of the desert, extreme temperature fluctuations, seismicity, strong winds and an area of legendary tormentes of sand," said Axel Giesecke, specialist in marketing of Dow Corning Constrution. "The sealing insulation from Dow Corning maintains the pressure appropriate isolation of glass units, while our sealant for structural glazing remains firmly attached to the curtain wall glass panels".
Burj Dubai has been designed to maintain for at least a hundred years and its unique design took inspiration from Islamic architecture. After it completes, its glass curtain wall will contain an equivalent to 25 football pitches glass surface. It is expected that the works of the tower are at the end of 2008.
