Reynaers Aluminium built the largest photovoltaic facility in Duffel Belgium
on September 6, 2007
To accommodate the rapid growth of the company,
reynaers aluminium is expanding its distribution center in Duffel. 3,072 Solar panels on the cover of the new store being installed. The planned annual electrical power of 500,000 kWh makes, currently, the largest photovoltaic facility on deck in Belgium. This project is a reflection of the policies of care for the environment of the company, which is taking its responsibilities to achieve the Kyoto objectives.
The decision to invest in this solar installation fits with the entrepreneurial vision of respect for the environment and corporate social responsibility. "In addition to our innovations in the field of the development of sustainable solutions for the construction, we consider our duty to contribute actively to achieving the Kyoto targets to reduce greenhouse gases, and generate more electricity from renewable energy"says Martine Reynaers, Director general of Reynaers Aluminium.
Sustainable development is an important innovation for Reynaers Aluminium. The most recent innovations in energy and environmental efficiency include: aluminium profiles with high thermal insulation, external solar protections that allow better control of the energy efficiency of buildings and solutions of ventilated facade.
The photovoltaic installation is 3,072 solar modules that cover an area of 16,000 square meters. The system will generate 500,000 kWh of green power each year. This corresponds to the annual electricity consumption of 166 housing. A traditional thermal power station of the same capacity would issue 280 tonnes of CO2 per year.
The solar modules are installed on the roof of the new store is currently at the center of distribution in Duffel being built which will completely cover the energy needs of the new store. The electricity generated during the weekend will fuel the municipal electrical network. The period of amortisation of the project is estimated at 9 years old. The system will be operational from the month of December.
