Cement consumption continues at minimum values

The consumption of cement in the first month of 2011 was 1.5 million tonnes, figure that we back to levels of 1988. The apparent demand continues to fall and only bad weather at the beginning of 2010 has been the cause of cement consumption has remained stable on January 2010. On the other hand, cement production reached 1.6 million tonnes, representing an increase of 7.1% in January 2010, according to Oficemen said in a statement.
Despite these data, the figures recorded at the beginning of the year for the cement sector are still negative. In the past twelve months there has been a decline in the production of slightly more than 10%, with 26 million tons of cement, compared to 29 million the previous year. This construction material consumption continues to fall, with a reduction of almost 14 per cent in the year of mobile (February 2010 - January 2011). The only record that seems to follow a different pattern are exports which have increased by more than 31%, with 3.8 million tons.
