Europe will develop new standards to promote the electric car
March 10, 2010
In the framework of the various actions to promote electric vehicle and, thus, reduce emissions and promote alternative energy sources, the Summit served to underscore the outstanding contribution of the work of standardization in this area. There are currently about 50 standards and specifications on the electric vehicle (in areas such as security and electrical protection, energy efficiency, batteries, communication protocols or bases and pegs, among others) which may be taken, in good part, as a reference for preparing future documents.
For the future, the works are diverse. In Spain, the Ministry of industry, trade and tourism will boost the standardisation at European level of systems, equipment and communication protocols for the loading of plug-in electric and hybrid vehicles, according to the memorandum to the momentum of the electric vehicle in Spain.
In Europe, with the expected impulse of the European Commission, it will normalize various aspects to promote electric cars in the EU, within the European standardisation bodies in coordination with international agencies. Aenor, as Spanish representative to the European and international standardization organizations, it would participate actively in the development of future standards.
