The cement sector expected to close 2009 with a decline in consumption between 33 and 35 %

The Grouping of manufacturers of cement Spain expected to close the year with a decline in the consumption of between 33 and 35%. This fall we will be at similar levels to those who live in 1997. In the light of these data, the Department of studies of Oficemen provides that in the second half of the year the trend broadens slightly lower consumption of cement in the first half has been of 40.5 per cent (14.4 million tonnes).
The slump in demand has made that cement production reached the 14.6 million tons until June, representing a decrease of 38% in comparison with the same period of the previous year. Exports have grown to 1.5 million tons of cement and clinker (52 per cent more than a year ago), very similar to imports coming from third countries, 1.4 million tonnes.
