Elastic sealing of joints of sheets of the 'Centre of the bridge' of the Expo in Zaragoza

The Pabellón, designed by the architect Zaha Hadid and one of the main entrances to the last Expo 2008, presents a new order for the landscape of the river banks of the Ebro river, separating from the alignments and the buildings and establishing a smooth interaction through a garden transition ramps with the city of Zaragoza. It has two floors and is designed in the form of gladiolus, with a narrow end based on the right bank of the river and one end forks into three branches or stems, and supported on the left bank.
The Pavilion - bridge, one of the exhibition pavilions of Expo Zaragoza 2008 along with the water tower and the River Aquarium, hosted the exhibition 'Water, single resource', dedicated to best practices in water management.

Elected system
The work was in full ejecución-construcción. The fundamental problem for the technical direction was how to seal the joints of plates that made up the 'town of the bridge' unless you will notice boards. Thickness to seal was 0-10 mm, which in some cases it was impossible to introduce any type of filler on the inside of the boards. This sealing, moreover, had to be able to absorb all the dilatations of the metal plates.
The Ainur works vertical, specialized in solutions Sika applicator company, after some testing in the field that was not only assessed the reliability of the system but also the aesthetic result, decided in favor of apply Sikaflex 11FC +, after priming with Sika Prime-204in order to guarantee the adherence of the filler on the metal. In the areas of maximum width was introduced Fund of Board until 6.10 and 15 mm.

Procedure performed
Given that what was intended was to apply the maximum amount of polyurethane PuTTY, in order to have sufficient modulus of elasticity that was capable of absorbing the movements of dilation of the plates, we opted for making a seal in the form of T, looking for a balance between supply of material and aesthetic result. We must remember that this was one of the most visible parts of the Pavilion.
As first step was a clean and healthy of remains of paint and welding by brushing with brush of steel spikes. It was placed below the Fund's Board in areas where needed, to subsequently identify the area to seal, through placement of coachbuilding tape.
Then applied the primer Sika Prime-204 and carried out the profiling and sealing it to get the thickness of PuTTY suitable with Sikaflex 11FC +. He worked ended with the withdrawal of the coachbuilding tape.

The competition 'The best work Sika'
It is an initiative of Sika to reward specialist applicators of their solutions. Applicator company that has carried out a work of reference - by their technical characteristics, as an emblematic work, the novelty in its implementation - can submit photos, in digital format or paper, and eligible for the awards in each of the categories of the contest.
The different categories covering the contest are strengthening and repair; Pasting elastic; Pavements; Waterproofing membranes; Facades: painting and waterproofing. This year has been the fourth edition of the competition.
