Success of the 'Seminar II of Poliméricos Composites in construction' assistance

This event was organized with the collaboration of the Conselleria of Indústria, Comerç i Innovació, Impiva and Redit, and sponsored by MEL Composites and Matva, companies that had the opportunity to present your products in composites to attendees.

The seminar was opened by the director general of the Impiva, Daniel Moragues, who emphasized the wide horizontal applicability of these elements and its high technological component "which is an opportunity to privilege the technification of traditional sectors and an open path for accessing new markets".

The Seminar II of the Poliméricos Composites in construction was structured into six thematic areas:

-Legislation / standardization / certification.

-Suppliers of raw materials specific for the sector.

-Manufacturers of products for construction in composite materials.

-Construction companies using composites.

-New trends.

-Technology

To analyze each of these areas, he was the participation of speakers of recognized worth in the field of the seminar, such as: Acciona infrastructure, Pedelta, José Antonio García, AENOR, multi-form pools, Fibrotec materials compounds S.L, S.L Urjato, Absara Industrial S.L, Ferro Spain s.a., CDTI, Sika, S.A, Ashland Chemical Hispania s.a., Owens Corning Fiberglas Spain, S.A, EUCIA, Polytechnic University of Valencia, and S.L. Eurofiber

The causes of the need to strengthen an architectural structure are different. One of them is the increase of the acting loads on the structure, both by changes of uses (e.g. a residential building that is transformed into a hotel) and the installation of heavy machinery (the placement of a press in a structure was not designed to withstand it), or by the increase in the level of activity of a structure (for example the increase of traffic in an old bridge.)

The need to strengthen a structure is also produced by project or performance defects. For example, when the dimensions of the structural elements are insufficient (not must account sheets of lead in rooms of x-ray, requiring weight be taken into account for sized beams, slabs, pillars, etc.), or the armor is insufficient or is poorly placed (the ferrallista forgot to place some of the rods of steel), or also for the provision of structural elements is not correct (changed the situation of the pillars on which had been in the levels.) The need to strengthen a structure also occurs by the use of low quality materials (concrete does not reach the resistance identified in draft by a faulty curing effect of segregation, etc.)

Structural reinforcements are also necessary when there are changes in the own way of structure for the opening of holes in floors (construction of stairs, gaps of lifts, placement of pipes, etc.) and when removed pillars or walls of cargo, with increase in charging lights (reforms of housing units, industrial buildings, opening holes for elevators and stairs, etc.).

Reinforcements are also required when there are damages in the structure by impacts on the structure (e.g. the impact of vehicles against the pillars of a bridge), as by fire (such as the burning of a car in a garage that affects the adjacent pillars and reticular floor) or corrosion and loss of section of the armor of the concrete (structures in contact with the sea and next to him as piers of loading, or elements in very humid environments).

Finally, the use of reinforcements is necessary when you need to improve the conditions of service through the reduction in the tension of the armor (armor very stressed causing cracks.), the decrease in the deformations and arrows (forged with large arrows), and decrease of the opening of crack (in walls of deposits to avoid corrosion of armor).

Three types of reinforcements were presented at the seminar: Sika CarboDur applied directly to the works, both in building as civil works, SikaWrap, also applied directly in the play (solve most of the needs of strengthening and rehabilitation of structures)(: impacts, earthquakes, compression, shear), and Sika CarboShear, for the strengthening of elements subjected to shear (beams, beams, slabs, etc.).

In addition, in this event were examples of the implementation of these systems, if the bridge of Toralla, the Plaza de toros de Benidorm, or CTW Chemical Plant Muttenz - Basel (Switzerland).

AENOR is a private, independent and non-profit, recognized at the national, community and international levels. Recognized by law as (only) body of standardization in Spain, it has almost 200 active standardisation, and published more than 27000 standards committees.

According to the above during the workshop, the current state of the rules of composites is as follows: Spanish level only the adoption or ratification of European or international standards. At European level standards on composites are: Aecma-aerospace, Ceramic composites, harmonized standard of chemical resistance of deposits, laminates (HPL) and madera-plástico (WPC), profiles; Description and requirements, mechanical, physical properties.

To propose new rules it is necessary to refer to a body of standards (Aenor). Before leaving should: be clear about what you want to normalize (requirements, methods of testing, sampling, etc.), identify sectoral actors (associations, manufacturers, laboratories, etc.), and identify documentation of starting (sectoral documents, other standards, specifications, etc.).

To make a correct choice of the coating, the requirements should be analysed: waterproof, abrasion and impact resistance, chemical agent, security in rolling resistance, resistance to atmospheric conditions, etc.

The problems found in the usual surfaces are fissures and cracks (concrete), oxidation (metal) and broken or worn together.

During the event was unveiled the Sigma Coltura, a lining of three components: solvents, polyamine hardener-free epoxy resin and loads minerals.

The properties of this coating are excellent hardness, durability and elasticity to the impact and abrasion, waterproof liquids, non-slip properties, and very good resistance to cracking. This coating is also passable at 4 p.m., allows traffic to 40 hours, and has good resistance to chemicals.

The advantages of Sigma Coltura for system of ramps are as follows: it is slip-resistant, even when the surface is wet, by its nivelante property the product (with the recommended mineral mixture) not collapse on inclined surfaces, perfectly conceals the defects of concrete (effect mattress)It is passable to 16 hours and allow traffic to 40 hours, and is competitively priced with other solutions.

In the event were also presented the advantages of Sigma Coltura for systems boards of bridges, footbridges metal and covered with boats. With a single application the product acts as waterproofing, anticorrosion layer Raceway, and also presents an excellent resistance to abrasion and wear.
