AENOR verifies the first 'project climate of the Carbon Fund'
on July 26, 2013
The Spanish Association for standardisation and certification (Aenor) has become the first entity to verify a 'project climate of the Carbon Fund' for a sustainable economy of FES-CO2managed by the Spanish Office for climate change (Ministry of agriculture, food and environment). In particular, Aenor has certified that the project of the Biogas plant of the company slurry Almazan, Soria, has avoided the emission into the atmosphere of a total of 2,620 tons of CO2equivalent. These emissions will be acquired by the Carbon Fund, which is endowed with more than 10 million euros in 2013 by the Spanish Government. Through this initiative, each ton reduced in the framework of a verified project is economically compensated by the Fund.
The Biogas plant, Almazán is a project of organic waste, through the treatment of various types of waste, including pig. During the visit to the plant, Aenor Auditors have verified the accuracy of the data used in the calculation of emission reductions, in accordance with the methodology established by the Spanish Carbon Fund for this activity.
The climate projects, volunteers, are carried out in Spain and developed in the diffuse sectors (not subject to the European emissions trading scheme), as they are the transport, residential, commercial and institutional waste, agriculture, and fluoride. The Fund's objective is twofold: on the one hand, to be able to reduce our emissions in these sectors. On the other hand, favour the development of a low economic activity in carbon in our country, taking advantage of market niches that create jobs and commit to technological innovation. These initiatives, promoted through FES-CO2, They are designed to mark a transformation of the Spanish production system towards a low carbon. Thus, in the first call for 2012, the Spanish Fund has agreed the acquisition of reductions generated by 37 projects climate, which will prevent the emissions of more than 800,000 tons of CO2equivalent between 2013 and 2017. This year, 137 projects have been shortlisted.
