The cogeneration saves to the country more than 1.250 million euros to the year

BCG Does not include in this assessment the important contributions of the cogeneration to the industrial competitiveness, to the exports and to the employment, since the report centres in the savings that contributes to the electrical system.

The 1.250 million euros that the cogeneration contributes in shape of savings to the system, calculate when quantifying the saving of primary power, more the one of broadcasts of CO₂ and the savings of costs in the networks of distribution and of transport. The cogeneration, key tool of energetic efficiency and of competitiveness for the industry, saves to the country 70 million euros to the year more what saved him two years ago.

The energetic efficiency of the cogeneration, definitely the highest front that any another forms of generation, involves lower cost in the purchase of fuels and a remarkable decrease of the losses in the networks of transport, since the centres of production and of consumption are near, something that no sucede in the conventional generation. The investments in lines of transport and of distribution also reduce notably, since the power produced in the small head offices of cogeneration consumes in the own points where generates : industries, polygons and next zones.

Note: For rating current saving considered two scenarios of energy prices: a low scenario with prices 2009 (17/MWh border gas price, price CO₂ 13 ton) and a high stage at 2008 prices (price of gas in frontier 22/MWh, price CO₂ 23 ton).

Similarly, marketing costs are much lower, since self-consumed electricity is not managed by the electrical system. Also avoided costs associated with interruption of supply by failures in the network, since cogeneration stable production.

Also, and very important for the real economy of the country and its export capacity, the cogeneration allows its industries associated significantly reduce their energy costs, and because of that to raise their competitiveness, as well as guaranteeing the security of supply.

Boston Consulting Group BCG has recalculated the economic appraisals of the initial report in 2010, in which to assess the savings were considered two scenarios of energy prices, one low 2009 prices (price gas in frontier 17/MWh and price CO₂ 13 ton) and one high prices 2008 (price of gas in frontier 22/MWh and CO₂ price23 ton). Now update the data for 2013 taking a stage 2011 (price of gas in border 24/MWh and CO₂ in 13 ton price) and a stage 2012 (gas border price 27/MWh and₂ 7 ton CO price), and arriving at a final figure of savings by 2013 up to 1,250 million of savings.

One of the main reasons why saving cogeneration is now higher than the calculated two years ago, lies primarily in that the fuel prices are higher, in that transport costs have risen and distribution and by the strengthening of coal within the national mix, all contributing to a huge deterioration of the efficiency of the thermal park. Although the drop in prices of the CO₂ has made that this economic savings will be reduced, both the concept of saving by energy efficiency as by distributed generation they outweigh the 500 million euros per year each, totaling more than 1.25 billion euros.

Does only four years, the cogeneration contributed to the system 1.000 million euros in savings and in contrapartida the system registered then prime to the cogeneration by 740 million euros. However, in 2012, contributing the cogeneration some savings of 1.250 million euros with identical production of electricity and with similar economic results for the plants, the system imputed to the cogeneration 1.864 million euros by costs of premiums. It is evident that the model of imputación of costs prejudices gravely to the country, that pays twice by the same, and to the faithful image of the cogeneradores. The profits that the cogeneration contributes are evident in any stage, no like this the costs regulated associated that they are abocados by the system.
