Innovative project of smart textiles: application of non-toxic insecticides microcapsules in natural and synthetic clothing

The Scutum project hispanoindio 'Textile insecticides non-toxic advanced to prevent tropical diseases by transmission of mosquito', promoted by Gaia, investigates the development and implementation of non-toxic insecticides microcapsules in natural and synthetic clothing. Its goal is develop apparel made from fabric developing to avoid mosquito bites, and insects cause more than one million deaths per year in developing countries.

He is bed linen, pyjamas, shirts and inner t-shirts to protect people - especially children and pregnant women-, against mosquito bites that transmit diseases such as malaria, dengue, filariasis, and schistosomiasis tropical.

Bearing in mind that most mosquitoes bite during the night, the project will begin with the commercialization of linen. Subsequently, is intended to broaden the range of products even reaching the traditional clothing of Indian culture, such as: salwars, kameezes, sarees, etc. The deadline for implementation of the project is the biennium 2008-2010 and has a budget of € 500,000, co-funded by the CDTI and participating entities.
