Demolish a bridge in a weekend
on March 2, 2011
On Friday night, after having spread a layer of sand on the asphalt of the road to protect it, 12 excavators were put to work with big hammers and mordazad devastating concrete. The most powerful hammer was a 3000 HB of Atlas Copco's 3,000 kilos of weight for excavators 32 to 50 tons. It's a powerful tool capable of dealing with heavy demolition work. A really productive machine that can work 7 days a week, 24 hours a day.
They were destroyed, classified and withdrew a total of 4,000 cubic metres of reinforced concrete. The work was completed in just 40 hours, far below the scheduled 55. This impressive result was mainly achieved through careful planning, with a very detailed plan, the appropriate equipment and, not least, 45 professional operators.
However, the leading role played it the last devastating jaws of Atlas copco: the 6000 CC, equipped with universal jaws, which allowed cutting and crushing the bridge support beams and heavy reinforcement bars that crossed.
"We needed really heavy equipment in order to make this work in time", explains Steven Lisens, director of Baldewijns & Co. "the devastating JAWS 6000 CC contributed without doubt to make this work without any problems and to achieve this impressive end result." "The jaws do not had no problem with the size of the beams, as its potential for demolition and its great capacity for work exceeded all expectations".
