The situation in the cement industry "continues to be complicated", according to
ciment català, with figures of reduced activity, until the end of March next to 40%. According to recent data of the producers, the consumption of cement in Catalonia during the first three months of the year was 39.7 per cent lower than the same period of 2008. Also, production during the first quarter has registered a decline of 39.3%. On the other hand, the data of consumption and production of cement in the month of March, with less than previous months falls, are affected by the celebration of Holy week in April (instead of March, as it was the case in 2008). This has allowed that the current figures not incorporated yet no reduction for holidays.
"In short, companies continue pending an improvement in the current situation." A process that should produce gradually in the coming months, in parallel to the acceleración of the plans of economic recovery have been announced from the Government, after the recent renovation of the Cabinet. "In this sense, the momentum is vital not only to redirect the situation of the cement industry, but also to ensure the settlement of solid foundations for the future of the economy as a whole", comment from Ciment Català.
