The UPM campus will house three research centres in acoustic, robotics and material

The rector of the Universidad Politécnica of Madrid (UPM), Javier Uceda, the President of the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (csic), Rafael Rodrigo, in the presence of the Secretary of State for research, Carlos Martínez, signed an agreement for the construction of three new joint research centres. The new facility, specializing in acoustic, robotics, materials, are housed on the Campus of the UPM of Valdelacasa (Alcobendas). The Convention represents a strategic alliance, in the long term, in terms of research and transfer of knowledge with the support of the Ministry of science and innovation.

The complex will integrate the institutes of automation and robotics; Applied acoustics and not destructive, and safety and structural durability assessment and materials on a plot of almost 40,000 square meters. At a cost of around 48 million euros, this set of new centres will incorporate between 300 and 400 researchers from both institutions. The complex will have modern equipment to facilitate not only an activity of advanced research, but also technological services to companies in the sectors concerned. He is expected that the centres will be operational at the end of the year 2012.

The agreement is supplemented by an additional agreement to the CSIC will build on the plot of the UPM, a building that will house the Centre of Industrial Electronics, of the University. The activity of this new Centre will articulate around three lines of research: power electronics, digital systems and network quality.
