A new Center CTM extends the study of environmental technology in Catalonia
CTM Centre Tecnològic is the only centre of Catalonia that has, among its specialities, study and analysis of environmental issues. Its purpose is the improvement of environmental quality and its contribution towards sustainable development.
With the new CTM Flix technology environmental laboratory, the CTM Centre Tecnològic pursues the following objectives:
· Encourage research and development on environmental issues between the companies, industries and authorities of the territory
· Cooperation with agencies and institutions in environmental issues
· To support the withdrawal of heavy and organic sediments in the area
Side by side with companies
In a first phase, the Flix CTM shall consist of a team of three experts, and provided for future additions depending on the characteristics of each project are to develop. The objectives of the Flix CTM are promoting research and development on the environmental side between industries and administrations of the territory, collaborate with organizations and environmental institutions and support in the withdrawal of heavy and organic sediments in the area. This new laboratory will feature cutting-edge technology to carry out any project environmental. In addition, from the Department of environmental technology of the CTM Centre Tecnològic are work with staff and technology necessary.
According to Dr. Joan de Paul Ribas, Scientific Director of the area of environmental technology of the CTM Centre Tecnològic, "with this new laboratory the Terres de l'Ebre have a space of first level in the fields of research and development". CTM Centre Tecnològic can carry out r & d on the following topics:
Management of soil and sediment contaminants:
· Maps of sampling design and representation of parameters by GIS (basins of rivers, landfills, agricultural soils)
· Chemical analysis of contaminants in soils, sediments, water and development of methods
· Evaluation of risk chemical for health human ecosystems in polluting sites
· Modelling of reactive transport of pollutants
· Evaluation of processes of natural attenuation of contaminants
· Studies of treatment of soils and sediments
Treatment of waste water (industrial, urban and agricultural):
· Nanofiltration membranes
· (MBR) membrane bioreactor
· Optimized biological treatments
· Specific chemical treatments and its follow-up
