PVC to care for your back
A few new PVC inflatable mattresses allow home care professionals and nurses working at the correct height with the patient without having to force back to do so. The inflatable mattress of PVC supplied by Solvay not only facilitates the task of nurses and caregivers that helps patients with mobility difficulties go from lying to stand. This mattress, called Cairlift, is marketed by the company of Indes medical design, the Dutch organization of LVT residential care and a research laboratory in order to reduce absenteeism of personnel home care because of back problems and shoulder triggered by damaging physical efforts for its back carried out.
The mattress is placed between the bedspring and mattress of the bed of the patient and swells with a pump up to four levels of 11 cm of height each, depending on the needs. This system offers a compromise between the system of wedges to raise all the bed and the hospital bed, too bulky for small houses. The mattress is designed for people who may not be permanently lying down. Once deflated, the mattress can be transported in a bag that weighs only 6 kg (more 10 kg bomb). The mattress received the Design4All 2004 Award and the KITTZ & Fireva 2004 innovation award. It is already being provided by some insurance companies in the Netherlands. It has also been tested by residences of old age and maternity clinics.
