Asebio Presents Biolatam in the meeting of Science and Technology of the Organisation of American States

The attach to the presidency of Asebio, Jorge Barrero, was invited to present Biolatam, the big appointment of the global biotechnology with interests in Latin America, in the Eighth ordinary meeting of the Inter-American Commission of Science and Technology (Comcyt) of the Organisation of the American States (OEA). This meeting, that took place between the pasts 15 and 16 November in Washington, D.C., began with a call to the States Members (37 American countries) so that they increase his investments in the areas of investigation and development.

The general secretary attach of the OEA, Albert Ramdin, resaltó the urgent need that Latin America and the Caribbean improve his capacity of innovation. According to data of the World Bank, while Japan and Sweden invest 3,4% of his GDP in investigation and development, and Germany invests 2,8%, the region of Latin America and the Caribbean invests 0,78%. “This problem, although very real, can do handier in the average and long term if the governments and the private sector realizar a greater investment in programs of education related with the mathematics, the science, the technology, the engineering and the innovation”, said the general secretary attach of the OEA.

Signature of the agreement with Biolatam.

The general secretary attach indicated that during the Eighth meeting of the Comcyt would analyse the progress done to the clear-cut aims for the year 2025 with regard to four critical areas: Innovation; Education and Qualification of Human Resources; National Infrastructure of Quality; and Technological Development. In this sense, Jorge Barrero explained the impulse that will suppose the celebration of Biolatam the 9 and 10 December of this year in Bogota (Colombia), to achieve and deepen in these aims, since this event is called to turn into the most important of the sector biotecnológico innovative in Latin America.

Biolatam, organised between Asebio and the local partner Invest in Bogota with the collaboration of multiple institutional sponsors, is a forum of partnering of global field and Latin American approach, opened to companies, researchers and entities of main risk. The module of partnering will be managed with the software PartneringOne of EBD Group -usual provider in Biospain and other fairs of prestige- and will have a program of conferences on bioeconomía and biofuels, therapies advanced, alimentary biotechnology, personalised medicine, sanitary ware and main products risk, among others.

At present already are 215 the companies and organisations that have confirmed his participation, pertinent of 23 countries. Between them they stand out 14 bottoms of main risk of America and Europe (Companies and institutions confirmed). In December expects reach the 350 delegates, pertinent of 30 countries, and arrive to the 25 investors. Proexport Colombia, the entity of the Colombian Government commissioned of the promotion of the Direct Foreign Investment, has facilitated the presence of international investment funds that manage between all more than 3.000 million euros in wallets centred in the field of the health and the technology. Until the moment, there is confirmed 14 but expects that this event can attract until 25. Between these bottoms, stand out Wellington, of London; Flagship, of Boston, and Forbion, of Ámsterdam.
