Is our academic training in chemistry third world?
The little prominence in general science and chemistry in particular have in the school curriculum was the subject of analysis and study in the framework of the celebration of the national chemistry day, on November 15that had the participation of professionals in teaching, business environment and research and innovation in this scientific area. This group calls for the need to promote academic quality training in the chemical area that is comparable to the more advanced countries of the European Union and is not third world, as had recently called six Nobel Laureates on the occasion of the centenary in the Royal societies of physics and chemistry.
In his view, "given that society is moving towards a blatant scientific illiteracy, chemistry professionals propose maximum urgently increase the chemical formation in secondary education for all pupils, changing the current structure of high school to do so comparable to that of most European countries and to renew the official contents of the" "chemistry to give them more experimental and related to daily life which will result in a greater understanding of the value of this science".
Both schools, as research and business as a whole have the conviction that if does not change the existing school curriculum, characterized by the low presence of scientific subjects and a worrying decrease in the workload of the sameIt will not be possible to guarantee the necessary minimum training so that future citizens can have a criterion formed before the unknowns that acuciarán our society, or probably will be able to cope with the economic, technological and innovative development needed to compete successfully in an increasingly demanding market with sufficient guarantees.
