Presentación

State Agency Council Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC) is the largest public institution dedicated to research in Spain and the third in Europe. Attached to the Ministry of economy and competitiveness, through the Secretariat of State for research, development and innovation, its fundamental objective is to develop and promote research for the benefit of scientific and technological progress, which is open to collaboration with Spanish and foreign entities. According to its statute (article 4), it aims the promotion, coordination, development and diffusion of scientific and technological research, nature multidisciplinary, in order to contribute to the advancement of knowledge and to the economic, social and cultural development, as well as to the training of staff and advice from public and private entities in this area.

The CSIC plays a central role in the scientific and technological policy since it ranges from basic research to the transfer of knowledge to the productive sector. Form the engine of research centers and institutes, distributed by all the autonomous communities, and more than 15,000 employees, of which more than 3,000 are researchers on staff and other so many doctors and scientists in training. The CSIC has with the 6 per cent of staff dedicated to research and development in Spain, It generates approximately 20 per cent of the national scientific production. In addition, it manages a set of important infrastructure, the most complete and extensive specialized libraries network and has mixed research units.
