COAG Demands urgent and effective measures for the management of the markets of fruit and vegetables

The Coordinator of Organisations of Agriculturalists and Graziers (COAG) demanded yesterday, 10 May, in the frank Mixed Committee-italo-Spanish of fruit and vegetables urgent measures, concrete and effective for the management of the markets in the sector of fruit and vegetables. COAG Considers that it has to tackle with premura the improvement of the systems at present in force and the development of new mechanisms, as it can be the creation of a system of grave crisis, and not expecting to the modification of the specific rule of the sector. In this line, and according to the agricultural organisation, has to endow of real content to the current proposal of reform of the PAC in the concerning the management of the markets, to the possibilities of performance by part of the interprofesionales for the ordenación of the chain of value and the establishment of exceptions to the rule of competition that allow the set up of real measures to favour the reception of worthy prices by part of the producer.

“Have to work so that the EU implement mechanisms that avoid the volatility of the prices in origin and normative that forbid practical commercial little transparent. The mechanisms of management of current markets in the sector are absolutely insufficient to face up to the recurrent crises that suffer”, aimed Eduardo López, manager of the sector hortofrutícola in the Executive Commission of COAG. In this sense, asked that the reform of the PAC collect the specificity of the agricultural sector and establish exceptions in matter of competition that allow to face up to the concentration of the big distribution and his complete control on the prices in origin. Besides, COAG bets by a system of management of grave crisis, agile, universal and accessible for all the producers, with financials 100% public and that activate of automatic and immediate form in front of falls of prices.

The delegation of COAG proposed also measured to improve the operation of the alimentary chain in the sector, especially, the improvement of the position of the Organisations of Producers and the reinforcement of the paper negotiator in the breast of the Interprofesionales. “It is basic to follow vertebrando and organising the sector, boosting the concentration of the offer, with the aim to strengthen the position negotiator of the producers inside the chain”, underlined Eduardo López.

After the reform of the OCM of fruit and vegetables produced in the year 2007, the only mechanisms of management of existent market in this sector, the measures of management and prevention of crisis of the Organisations of Producers of Fruit and Vegetables (OPFH), only can apply through the operative programs of the same.
