The I.G.P. bananas of Canary manages the temporary national protection of the MARM

The protected geographical indication (protected geographical indication) Canary Islands bananas already has temporary national protection. The Ministerio de Medio Ambiente, and Medio Rural y Marino (MARM) thus notes, today, a resolution on the subject in the official State Bulletin (BOE). The Ministry of agriculture Canaria already made this procedure before issuing a favourable decision on the application for registration of the protected geographical indication in the Community register of appellations of origin protected and protected geographical indications. Once it appears in the Official Gazette the temporary national protection, it is necessary to wait for the final registration of the mark of quality in the records of the EU.
The I.G.P. bananas of Canary Islands only certifies a variety of fruit, the Cavendish, with great tradition of cultivation in the Islands. As regards its characteristics, distinctive to the banana in the Canary Islands by its oblong shape and its calibration, whose minimum values are established between 14 and 27 mm.
