ASAJA Murcia advocates the regulation of business practices in the food chain

From ASAJA Murcia is proposed "the establishment of a statutory provision with the rank of law", to thus realize a regulation of the business practices of the food chain as indicated by the head of this agricultural professional organization. In this regard, and according to the agrarian entity, must have account in Spain law, the transfer of responsibilities to the autonomous communities and the distribution of competences in the field of control as well as the verification of the quality and labelling of the products that reach the end users. Coordination between the various administrations would in his view, be necessary with competences in this area, with the objective of that control over these aspects to be much more efficient and avoid behaviors that cause confusion of consumers as well.

In line with these aspirations, Alfonso Gálvez Caravaca, maximum responsible of ASAJA Murcia has assured: "Must be typified as prohibited and accompanied by a system of penalties to ensure compliance and allows the complaint behavior as sales losses, auctions and commercial destination of the production change"", the demand or imposition of atypical payments which reduce the price to the supplier, the lack of compensation and the rejection of items or claims at destination".

Therefore, ASAJA Murcia proposes a code of good trade practices which are based on the following principles: transparency, clarity, precision and simplicity in the exchange of information; mutual interest; equity; responsibility; commitment and self-regulation; as well as confidence. These principles should govern the relationship between the parties, regardless of the rights and obligations emanating from the legal system and so the MARM should cover it by law.

These are some of the issues which are commented in the course of the cycle of conferences 'Murcia, region agricultural' began last Wednesday with a conference entitled 'The right of competition in the food sector', that opened the rector of the University of MurciaJosé Antonio Cobacho and closed the Minister of agriculture and water, Antonio Cerdá, in the Auditorium of the Ministry of agriculture and water.
