on January 21, 2011
The mentions of Cava and Rioja represent 40% of the total exports of wine covered by a designation of origin, i.e., more than 1.7 million hectolitres between the two. Also, other as La Mancha, Spain, Jerez, Valencia, Cariñena, Cataluña, Valdepeñas, Navarra and utiel-Requena were marketed between 100,000 and 500,000 hectolitres, in other countries. Together, the eight DO exported 45% of the total. MARM data processed by the OEMV shows that 10 denominations of origin exported 4.3 million hectolitres, resulting in 85% of total exports of guaranteed quality wine. Therefore, evidenced a strong concentration of export sales. Of the 73 registered particulars, seven sold nothing in foreign markets and six released, out of the country, less than 100 hectolitres each.
This phenomenon of concentration also occurs among foreign markets of destination of the Spanish wine with DO. Although they have presence in over 40 countries, the main markets are in Germany and United Kingdom which absorb nearly 48 per cent of the total.
