Communicate is agile and continuous feedback to the production sector, allow plant varieties better adapted and innovate in the final product to benefit both consumers and producers. During 2010, the IRTA of Lleida and Mas Badia research stations being a process of evaluation of 288 varieties of peach, Nectarine, Pavia, flat peach and Nectarine flat. The Nectarine, both yellow and white, is the most important group of varieties. Their origin attests to the importance of France, Italy and the United States as the main source of varieties.
Innovation in this species is very dynamic, highlighting important groups of Nectarine's yellow and white meat, the flat peach and Nectarine flat, followed by the Red peach yellow flesh. In all groups obtaining varieties with an excellent presentation (high color, round shape and good size) and sweet taste, as well as the extension of maturity schedules varietal range of presentation and similar tastes are the most noteworthy features. Where more innovation has been in the last five years has been in the flat peach and Nectarine flat, in which Lleida leading production of the Ebro Valley. Already available in Nectarine flat of new varieties, quality and production, they are comparable to those of flat peach, and always talking about taste sweet and aromatic, very appreciated by consumers for its taste and for its convenience of use.
The day, with the support of the Department of agriculture, Alimentació i Acció Rural, the Diputació de Lleida and other institutions representing the sector, has become the national standard in the transfer of results of evaluation of varieties of this species.
