Ecogan, the application of the Marm, to estimate emissions and consumption of resources on farms

Coinciding with the celebration of the fair Expoaviga, from 8 to 10 June in Barcelona, was presented the Ecogan, the new computer application developed by the Ministry of environment and Rural Environment and marine (MARM). It is a tool for the estimation of emissions and the consumption of resources for farming. In view of the Assistant Director-general of resource conservation and Animal feeding of the MARM, Isabel García Sanz, who introduced this new application during the event, know the origin of emissions, resources consumed as well as discover what magnitude and timing of the production process taking placethey are key factors if it is to establish a strategy of minimization of environmental impacts.

Measurements, new software value techniques and procedures used to feed livestock, design and manipulation of accommodation, as well as the management and storage of manure and slurry result of the production process. Through the Ecogan, farmers can learn about emissions of ammonia, methane and nitrous oxide from his farm, the slurry and manure produced, as well as the concentration of nitrogen. This software also provides the manure storage capacity in the exploitation and whether it is suitable for a good appreciation of them. Also, the software makes it possible to measure the amount of nitrogen that contributes to the manure crop plantations and if the dose is correct, based on the environmental situation of farms. Also, advised aspects to improve and the tools available for this purpose.
