On May 11, Marta Morén, Director general of water of the Ministry of environment, and Rural areas and marine (Marm) participated in a sectoral table on management, water supply and water treatment, within the framework of the Forum of investments and cooperation business España-Egipto, in Cairo. In the course of his intervention, the spokesman of the Marm referred to Spanish companies, which catalogued global reference in technologies related to the water. In the words of Morén, Spain is an advanced country in the use of non-conventional resources, where new technologies, significantly, have decreased the energy cost. In this way, the Director general of water of the Marm has stressed that Spain commitment to sustainable management of water and by the use of all those technologies that optimize the existing water resources, with a low environmental impact. For example, the reuse of reclaimed water, desalination, the guarantee supply and the modernization of irrigation. Also, Spain is a pioneer in the water management by river basin, in the opinion of the head of water of the Marm, fruit of a very varied rainfall regime as the country presents a fragile water balance. A situation that will get worse because of climate change, factor to assess the planning and water management.
On the other hand, Morén took advantage of their stay to visit the New Cairo wastewater sewage treatment plant. It's a public-private collaborative project awarded to the consortium between the society Orasqualia, constituted 50 per cent by the Spanish company Aqualia (Integral management of the SA water) and the Egyptian Orascom Construction Industries (OIC).
